Was holding my Royal today and noticed he didn't feel as firm underneath as my Corn did. At the moment he's on 1 rat weaner once a week. He's an 07 hatch.

Should I increase his food size or feed him 2 weaners from now on / for a while?

I haven't tried weighing him yet.

Here's a couple of pics if it helps:

He looks chunky in the first pic and looks like he could have a small rat,but that depends on his wieght and the weights of the prey from your supplier

As Lee says he looks nice and chunky in the shots so to me he is fine...but it is hard to tell in photos..you need to weigh him,

they can be any size, it will depend really on how well they fed before or any health problems that might slow down growth all kinds of things,

looking at him he looks fine, what are you currently feeding him?

As I said in my post he's eating one rat weaner a week.

I'll see if I can weigh and measure him and also weigh the weaners he's eating.

When I bought him at the end of June I was told he was on weaners and he's shed once since that time.

The food item should be about as big as the thickest part of his body, or 10-15% of his body weight.

Royals do feel different to corns as they're a heavier-bodied species so don't be alarmed

I agree with Boze above that you should aim for a feed 10%-15% of his body weight and nothing larger than 1.5 times the size of his head, he does look pretty good to me from the photos though :) They sometimes do get a little slack underneath especially when they go a few days without food but usually they fill up nicely when they have eaten, my normal royal went for 10 days without food then fed consecutively for 4 nights !! lol and filled up again very nicely :)
