hi, my reptile shop is in my opinion poop. they keep telling me completely the opposite advice to you guys!!!!
well aparently:

1. royal pythons should be only fed mice and chicks!!!!!
2. wood chippings is a bad substrate for them
3. they are very aggressive....lol
4. the hot end should be 80oF otherwise its too hot.....lol again
5. they are selling rat pups and calling them small mice!!!!

see what i mean totally useless, it a good thing i know what i want when i go in there, im pretty sure my snake would be dead by now if i took their advice!!!!

i live in hastings, east sussex and was wondering if anyone knows any good breeders around here that could help me if i was to have any problems. The pet should would probably tell me to give my snake cough medicine if she started wheezing lol

thanks a lot guys, be welcome to mock my pet shop as much as me

yup, happens alot. You just have to take all the advice you are given, and work out which one is correct ;)

Some of the things I have seen berated online actually aren't that bad/wrong at all, so it's a case of doing what YOU believe is correct.

All I do is take a general consensus, then work out my own way.

thank you, a quick question, so this thread isnt too pathetically short.
just took Boo out of her viv, turned her upside down and she deffo going a pale rosy pink, will take a couple of pictures when my camera battery is charged, not just for you guys, i got a log book on her and some pictures would be cool.
so she is deffo gonna shed soon, one thing my dad had a royal years ago but this is my first royal, how long are they pink for before their eyes go blue, she is due a feed tomorrow and was going to continue feeding until i saw her eyes go blue, but afraid might miss that bit, cause i am at college, but 90% sure i'll see blue eyes. She is having 2 mice fluffs tomorrow, and meant to have one on sunday, the mice are too small, getting rat fluffs next week that why she got 3 this week, she has managed that amount no probs before.

do you think i should do as i am planning and feed until i see the colour change in her eyes or do you think i should stop feeding her now

You shouldnt be feeding her on thursdays and sundays, its too often and im pretty sure someone has already advised you of that. Unless of course you want a snake with loads of built up undigested food in her? Or a fat unhealthy snake?

I stop feeding Sal when her eyes go blue. Once they clear its normally only a couple of days till she sheds and she gets a feed then

she is due a clean out next monday, i reckon she might have gone blue by then, but will need to clean her out, so will be extra careful, and when she gets back in her viv, she will find a tub of sphagnum moss to keep her nice and ready for the shed

by the way how often do i have to change the moss, it only for the shed so i guess it wont need changing, but i am just curious because i have never used the stuff before???

thanks

LMAO i wondered how long it would take....

yeah i'd say shed on way as for time scale. they are all different really one of mine will be blue one night clear next morning and completely shed in48hours. the other spends 2-3days before blue phase in moss hide and the takes longer to shed.

shame really, i am most likely going to miss the shed. if i dont have college during the day, then i am asleep during the night and at the weekends im at work.
but yea she is only just gone really pink, she was being a bit of an active one though when i put her back, she went in her hide then went for a swim, the back in the hide, then another swim followed by slithering up to the glass of the tank and opening her mouth really wide, she is asleep now though.
maybe she just wanted attention

With your moss hide - there is no need to change the moss as she will probably be in it until after the shed.
As Spor said all snakes are different, but the blue eyes will last a day or two so you are likely to see this, as for the actual shedding they tend to do this mainly at night, but on a few occasions I have witnessed some of mine early evening.
Hope all goes well and enjoy the experience. :)
