My Royal is 3 1/2 foot long male and its been about 950g for few weeks.

I fed it a rat from a different shop the other day and it was 190g!! The Royal ate him straight away but you could see the lump for about 4 days and you can feel the weight difference. was that a bad thing to do and would it have a detrimental effect on his health

Its feeding day tomorrow and not sure whether to feed him or not

He weighs 1085g tonight

150g is probably best to keep as your max at the moment. larger item will take longer to digest. feeding to large a pery item can cause internal damage so you just need to be careful. how often do you feed?

If you knew it was too big, why did you give it to him?

No you won't have done any harm as a one off, but I'd give him a couple of weeks before feeding again.

As with Spor, the max I'd give is 15%.

I didn;t know it was too big before I fed Blackecho.the guy in the shop said it was fine as it was a small rat same as I buy from another shop which isusually about 100g. I fed it but then had reservations when it was going down his throat.... too late then and clearly I couldsee the lump during the week

I normally feed on a friday but clearly I will skip a week this week

I meant size wise, as in for you must have weighed it to know it was 190g before. Anyway, its done now and as a one-off, no harm done.

with an over-sized prey item its a race between digestion and decay in the snake's stomach. if it's digested, then great! but if 'decay' wins you could end up with a bloated, uncomfortable, potentially poisoned snake or at best a horrible regurge with the associated problems with getting them feeding again.

glad you got away with it this time
