Just an update:
Velvet shed the morning i picked her up from the shop [which was a saturday] and was due to feed on monday. I left her be for a few extra days to allow her to settle in and decided to feed her last night.
Now Strawbs, my kingsnake, is so placid she wouldn't constrict a mouse if her life depended on it. She'll only touch her food if i leave it somewhere close to her and turn the lights off,bless.. i thought for a moment Velvet was going to be of a similar temprement as i hovered the mouse outside of her hide and waited for the slaughter to begin.. but nothing. Darren & i decided she was probably a litle nervous so we left the mouse just outside her hide and walked away. Just as we were leaving the room, we saw her bolt towards this mouse & constricted it for AGES. [well, around 5 minutes]
I felt so proud The shop said she was a striker but she was obviously a little too nervous to venture out of her hide. It's such a bizarre experience to be so used to a lazy eating snake and then have Velvet pounce on her food so aggressively
So happy with her though, she seemes quite curious, and wants to explore, but ithink she still needs time to adjust.
Just thought i'd share
