i woke up this morning to this......
although bobby's head was under the water! the first thing i done was obviously fear the worst and thought he had drowned, he soon moved though which was VERY comforting, is this normal does anyone know? or is there any reason why he has scared the hell out of me?

i have had him a week now and he is beautiful but a big worry! lol

Some snakes do like a soak every now and again or it could be:
Snake coming up to a shed;
Viv a bit too warm for snake's liking;
Mites! - Check water bowl for small black specs. |

thanks for the reply, he is still in there now, he does seem to be enjoying it though!
edit.
the temp is at 90 so a tad high so i will get that down a bit, there is stuff in the bowl but it could be from the bark, is there any other way to check if it's mites? |

Is that a flourescent tube light you have in the viv?
If it is, it is not ideal for a snake and I would swap it for a normal light with a guard. As you can see the snake can get up on to it and could potentially burn itself or cause it to smash by going on it. Also the high frequency fickering (not visible to the human eye) could stress him out. |

| The strength of a Royal wrapped around it is easily enough to shatter it and as Daz says, they flicker which the Royal can pick up on and may cause stress. I'd get rid myself. If you need a viewing light in there you could try an energy saving bulb in a guard. |

these were my initial few thought too and totally agree about losing the UV/strip light. if it's UV then snakes don't need UV, especially a predominantly nocturnal species like royals. and didn't Kehhlyr post a link to a vid on youtube with the flickering strip light? |

sorry hun it's still a strip light and will have the same effect as on the link BE posted above
for a light purely for viewing purposes an energy saving bulb is probably the best option |
