In 1998 the population of Royals shrunk massively? - Coinciding with the large American breeders buying up 100s of 1000s of Wild Caught/Captive Farmed animals?

I can understand why. As the global popultaion increases land is being taken for homes and it's causing all animals to retret. In the case of the royal it's a popular pet and will be taken from the wild for selling into the pet trade.

yeah they don't seem to have thought about that at all. I'm sure that more than just the royals could be effected by the increased popularity of reptilian pets. the same thing has happened with many fish with in the tropical fish keeping world. were fish that were once very popular in home aquariums can no longer be bought. off course with the fish keeping there is an extra factor were many fish can not be breed in captivity. at least with the snakes that issue will does not cause a problem.
