With IR you also get some light so you can see your snake easier

If i decide to do away with the heat mat and use infra red bulb what wattage would i need to get the temp up also i know i need dimmer stat.At the moment the hide is on top of heat mat where he goes. Now if you move on to infra red the heat will heat the top of his hide.so he wouldnt be getting direct heat like he would from the mat.Just thinking about it at the moment dont want to stress him as hes just started eating rats.and hes stredding well.

I use IR bulbs and not ceramics as said earlier they emit some light so you can see the snakes which is a bonus, I have a stack of 3 vivs and use a 100w on the bottom and 60w on the two above as they benefit from rising heat and they all maintain temperature, if you only have one viv then a 75 or 100w is good as it doesn't have to work too hard depending on the ambient temperature, always keep a spare in reserve
