At the time the heat mat was off, but as it's cooler now i have turned it back on. The mat arguement is to do with thermal blocking and to a lesser point electricution. If you have ever seen one empty their bowels you will understand. If it was the mat it would be under her neck not on top. Her belly is fine. I don't know what it was that caused it

could it be possible that she's had trouble shedding in that area before and retained one or a few scales on more than one occassion and it has finally "peeled off" since you mentioned that the scales were hard as though they had been super glued?
