Hello,
At the risk of sounding totally ignorant, can i ask what an Axanthic is? I'm generally quite confused by this whole morph, breeding, genetics thing and when i look at different patterns i just see different patterns but there is clearly more to it than that???

But, I have to say, he is a stunner!

not ignorant at all Axanthic just means to lack or not show any yellow pigments.

The majority of Axanthics brown out as they age as do many other morphs. In fact the only line proven not to brown is the new black axanthic.

A het is a snake that carries the gene but doesn't show it. There is another thread explaining this in detail but can't be bothered to find it right now in a bit of a rush

Het aka Heterozygous means "The two genes of a given pair are different". That is absolutely ALL it means. It doesn't tell you whether the animal looks like the wildtype for that trait or not. Hets are usually referred to when talking about recessives such as albino's etc but refer to co - dom morphs as well. For instance Fire is het for black eyed lucy.
here's a few examples:

Albino X Albino = 100% of the clutch will be 100% albino looking

Albino X normal = 100% of clutch will be normals 100% het for albino

Albino X 100% het albino = 50% of clutch will be normals 100% het and other 50% will be Albino

100% het X 100% het = 25% of clutch will be normals, 50% will be normals 100% hets and 25% will be albino.

Now because you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the normals and the hets that whole 75% of the clutch would be classed as 66% possible hets until bred and proven to either be normal or 100% het.

Hope this shed's a little light.

Superb explanation Bob, all this stuff about genes is starting to make sense to me. Is there anywhere where there's a list of which genes are recessive/dominant/co-dominant to which (if that makes sense)?
