Hi guys, Betty has been on mice since i brought her in july and never missed a feed even when shedding. I thought i would try her on rat weeners as they seem to be the more popular choice. She wouldnt take it so i have put a mouse i had left in a tub with the rat weener to try and get the mouse smell on it and hopefully this will work. Im on a late shiftat work today so will try her again when i get home, just wondered if you had any more advice if this doesnt work? Thanks. |

Just try again in 5 days.
Unfortunately you are trying to change at a traditional time of year for them to not eat anyway, so it may just be that (fingers crossed!) |

What I do with my mouse junkies, when defrosting the rat I put in with a mouse in a zip-lock bag and let them defrost together. Basic the same as what you are going to try. |

Most people see it as a rodent and a food source for a snake, but mostly its Petshops that give out wrong info. But then problem feeders rather go for a mouse than a rat. |

Agreed, rats all the way if possible, but as above, pet shops have a lot to answer for. |

As con said she was already on mice when i got her from the reptile shop and its only when you start looking on forums like this that you realise that the information you get isn't always correct. Like most people i trusted what i was told. Anyway back to the non eating it turns out she's ready to shed so i think thats the reason she wont eat |

Well quick update, Betty shed last night in about 1 minute flat. Absolutely perfect shed and looking stunning again so will try her on the rats again tomorrow and hopefully she will take it. :) |

Wow, good girl, good shedder! Hope she goes for the rat. Had similar probs with flo a few months ago but she came round, then fasted for 5 weeks and now is about to shed. Feels like a long wait but maybe tonight. then ratty gets it! Good luck, hope ratty gets scoffed! |

Right, I tried betty on a rat that I had rubbed with aa mouse and she took no notice, so I decided to try her with the mouse to make sure she was defo not interested and she went stright for it. Is there any way to get the mouse scent onto the rat stronger? |

If you look on the snake diy forum, you will see a thread on 'how to jacket a prey.' Haven't tried this myself, yet, but in another couple of months, once their appetites are back to normal, I will be serving ratty done up in full mousey jacket to my two mouse junkies. Fingers crossed for us all. |

Allow them to defrost together in a sandwich bag at room temperature for a few hours with a very small amount of water in, rubbing them together every now and again. |

Tried this a few times, didn't work in my case, even though he was eating like a tiger at the time. |

Wash the same color/size rat as the mice you were feeding so the scent is less then rub in fresh mouse bedding from pets at hm etc. Worked for me. |
