Well I am very interested in breeding my male Royal (Oliver) but to do so I would need to sell/part-ex Zia.
I have grown rather fond of her to be honest, and don't know what I am thinking.
But the more I think about breeding the more I think about selling/part-ex for a larger female Royal.
I can't help feeling kind of cruel to her though
Anyone got any thoughts?

Moving them about stresses them out and if you've bonded with her then I would personally keep her.

I know it does, but I would obviously ring the shop I am going to firstly to see if they definitely want her so then it isn't a wasted journey of stress.
Also yes I have bonded with her a little bit, not as much as I'd like, but I think if the right swap/part-ex came along I would swap her.
I think I am wanting a Pastel to put to my male, and she just isn't big enough yet.

I would keep her still and wait till she is big enough to breed and in that time you can do lots of reserch on it all.

I have to agree with the research bit too, maybe find someone on here who can mentor you through learning all about breeding, incubating, hatchling husbandry, problem feeders (got a feeling there a lots of these), finding a selling platform, demand. The thing with breeding snakes - which I would love to do - is I know in my area there is no shortage of Royal's and corn snakes, kings, basically every type of snake there is which means someone is already doing what you are thinking of doing so the shops are already being supplied and they will go with their tried and tested and trusted breeders before ever taking on a new breeders stock. Would you be prepared to sell for little to no profit, and in some cases a loss or end up with a house full of baby snakes you can't shift. The initial outlay of cash and the hours of graft and care giving may not give you any return at all.

Good point. I am getting a lovely Royal baby, it's a normal but a lovely reduced pattern and very pretty for a normal. I am getting it from a well know breeder with a good reputation and he is selling his males for £25 and the females for £40!! He is still having trouble selling them.

I must admin OHO that I thought about breeding Palin, but the more research I did, I realised that it wasn't for me, good luck with what ever decision you make, but for your own peace of mind make sure it's a well informed decision.
