Scar hasn't eaten for over a month now and he has lost 75grams is this a big deal or not to worry about just yet?

I don't know much about this, but if that's just after a month, I think I'd be worried.

I guess it depends how much he weighed beforehand?

I had heard that when they don't eat and are fine, they only lose a couple of grammes or so, nothing major, so 75g sounds a lot to me. But as I say, I am definitely not an expert so don't take my word for it!

Depends on what they've been eating really, for instance, if their last meal was a 70g rat, then the loss is probably just down to defecation. Its also possible that you had a mis-weigh one of the times for whatever reason. Weigh again in a couple of weeks if they haven't eaten and check again.

What percentage of his body weight has he lost? I'm no expert either but is it possible that royals shut right down at certain times of the year (due to lack of food in the wild) altough royals have been breed in captivity for decades they will still have the genetic memory of this, there is a reason we cool them down before we breed them cause this is what would happen in there natural enviroment and in cooling them down there metabolism slows because they are cooler than normal but they pick a certain time of year to cool down to also corrispond to a lack of prey items, If this is actually why scar hasn't eaten and his temps are still high his metabolism will be also which might explain the weight loss, and to say that there isn't a lack of food items so he should be eating isn't a real argument as his natuarl instinct will be greater than his desire to eat especially as he was wild caught. This post is just my opinion kelf but hope it's given food for thought.

He is 1390 now and was 1465 this time last month.

So he's lost just under over 5%

Doesn't look significant, like I said earlier, try again in a couple of weeks if they haven't fed.

If it's any consolation:-

Surahi, who I bought as 1300gm+ at end of Nov 10 (never got round to weighing her then as I was letting her settle in) stopped eating in mid Jan and fasted for 6 weeks.

I weighed her on Jan 28 - 1280gm

She's taken two small meals in the last 3 weeks - by no means up to strength, but I don't reckon she's going to fade away just yet lol ...

Weighed her today - 1350gm! (she hasn't taken a dump in a while.)

I reckon it's just as BE says, about the weight of the prey, and Scar will probably be worrying about the size of his bum as soon as he starts eating again.

As BE says just leave it till next feeding time and try again just under 5% I'm guessing is no problem in a snake his size. But if he is fasting because of the time of year you'll probably find he misses the next couple as well, just as a side note does anyone know of any expert who has written anything about wether they fast for a reason other than bloody mindedness lol

LOL - I think it's generally accepted that fasting's not due to bloodymindedness but randiness ...

I mean, which would you go for first? A trip to Macdonalds' or a night of passion??
