Don't worry there is more snake related stuff to the story.

I had a good old conversation with the wood cutting desk, showed them my plans and they helped me plan the layout of the larger bits to minimise the amount of wastage and only had to sacrifice 5cm of height in the Boa viv to get it to work much better. Then he had a look at some of the smaller bits, had a rummage in the offcuts bin cut me 4 pieces that he could fit to the offcuts and it only set me back 50p. He said to call in from time to time and check the offcuts bin see if any bits fit the bill, its not far from work so i will drop in to check between now and the big build date at the end of the month. Also sorted out delivery of the big bits that won't fit in my mini so all is going good.

Question for Sandi, how did you fit your viv together, just screws or dowel or some other fancy jointing?

Thanks for that, I have a pilot drill bit in the tool box I think, I'm dreading the putting it together bit I have a habit of been heavy handed and don't want to break it.

don't worry about being heavy handed im sure the mdf will try to get its revenge with all those sharp edges

screwing it together will be the strongest way. may i suggest 3.5 x 35 mm screws pilot drilled with a 2mm drill bit. you wont need to counter sink them this way, as u screw in the screw the head will pull under the surface. and if you paint it you will want to use a good quality two part filler to fill over the heads of the screws

If you dont want any screw heads showing and cant be bothered with the hasle of filling them you could always use pva and corner joints, just incase you don't know what they are, they are small rectangular blocks with two holes on one side and one hole on the other, using the pva on the edges of your side panels (assuming you will be using them to support your top and bottom) then the blocks on the inside edges perfect job done lol
