Geez Fea made me jump..he strikes and hangs on!
He swallowed quickly, then I waited a few mins to remove him from his feeding box lol..I don't know, he looks at me strange LOL
Now Slinky's turn, this;ll be his 5th feed with us (hopefully) i'll reply on this thread how it went and his weight :) |

Blackecho's feeding guide - feed 10/15% of the snake's weight.
0-400g - feed every 5 days
400-800g feed every 7 days
800-1200g every 10 days
1200g+ every 14 days |

Yes, that's the guide I use and I've found it works well for my lot.
398g at 4 months!! Chunky monkey's had a good start in life!!!

LOL Slinky is gonna be fed 5 days apart..and as for Fea he is mad for his mouse..I don't pick him up straight after..I don't trust him yet :) |

Fea noses around like that, tried to reach my shoulder but he's too little lol
I wonder if Slinky lad is really a ladette..if he/she reaches 6' helppp bad enough a baby *grins* |

Can you over feed?
I've been feeding every 4 days but because I wanted to move Betsy into a bigger RUB I wanted her to have a feed before hand and she had no hesitation in taking the small mouse on offer and this was only 3 days after her last feed. |

Yes I think you can..darn forgot who said now but its the digestion. Four days apart there is a possibility that the first mouse still isn't fully digested. I'm changing to every 5 days from now on..maybe try a small rat.
'would have the boa on the same feeding schedule as all they will be doing is permananty digesting food. 4 days is too close a period for a feeding schedule.'

One way to tell if you are feeding a lot to a royal is if it's poo-ing a lot.
My annoying little spider, who will only eat rat pups (two at a time and they are the biggest pups I can get, slightly fluffy ones) and he hardly poos at all.
My little machine of a feeder female eats medium to jumbo mice and is pilling the weight on, but she craps almost weekly.
I don't mind the spider being on a smaller diet as males don't NEED the weight, but am quite happy the female eats as she does, we like our females big ;) |

Well Fea just took his 3rd feed from me, this time in his Faun as I think he's going into shed and was particularly hissy this morning..actually was the first time he's hissed.

| That's good, congrats! Yes, my royals have only taken in blue the once but greedyguts like colubrids will eat even in deep blue and boas aren't much different I believe. |

Good lad! I honestly don't know about feeding in their enclosure with regard to boas - I can only say that I've had no problems with my lot, other than if they know it's feeding day (they can be on the lookout) and are excited, then I know to go in there only with hands at end of long tongs lol. Other than that, they're fine. |

He got a fright this morning tho, and so did !!
He was out for his morning walkies and had curled up after a bit, under the duvet snuggled to Katana's feet. Anyway I took a couple of pics which Kit wanted to see, so fair enough I passed her the phone, all this time Slinks was getting comfy. I went to pull the duvet over him, not knowing that she had put my phone down on it.
Yep down the phone slipped right on on top of the poor little baby. I think I got a bigger scare then he did, I felt awful after that. |
