Picked up Bo from the pet shop yesturday, as I was quite concerned about his shed. He started to shed last week and the owner of the shop hadn't really done much to assist him.
I felt like I was rescuing him :( from a bad situation.
We bought him home, and gave him a bath - and managed to remove most of the shed, however he has shed remaining on his head and neck and also one of his eyes.
What's the best way for us to approach this, as I want to help him remove it ASAP. Can we put olive oil in the water? Or should we get some form of shed ease? I just don't know how to tackle his face without frightening him.
He's very tame I might add, and hasn't shown any signs of being stressed. He's currently cosy in his hide.
I'm disgusted with the shop. It seems once the snake was sold they didn't give a **** about him.
The skin has gone really dry now too.
Other than this problem he's in good health, flicking his tongue and moves around ok.

| you could try putting him in a damp pillow case tie a knot in it and put back in the viv for about half hour, not in the hot end though. as he moves around the friction should help lift the skin. don't know if this will help with the eye cap though |

| as above. bathing and letting them run thru a tea-towel with gentle preassure helps aswell. i find that one perticularly usefull for head- end shed retained. |

Have given him another bath this evening, and the shed from his neck came off so now we just have the shed on his head, I think if we can somehow get this to start rolling off, the eye caps will come with it.
Poor little boy. He's so calm, it's almost like he knows we're trying to help. |

Good luck - yes, I had to do eyecaps with my gopher snake Ziska who's a little sod ...and she just sat there, trusting me - incredible! Long as you've got them damp enough, eyecaps just peel off like the rest of the shed.
Royal heads are difficult as the skin can get stuck around the heat pits along the upper lip - had a bad do with this with Shahi - I was trying to ease the skin backwards, as it ought to come off, and ended up easing it sideways from one lip ...and you should have seen the
plugs of skin that came out from pits and nostril.

Ok so with cotton buds and plenty of warm water we managed to get the head shed removed and both eyecaps.
I am so angry with the store :( he's not reacting much to movement near his eyes, so now we are worried that the retained shed has made him blind.
I've never known such a calm snake, just sat with his head in the palm of my hand whilst I rolled the shed off with a cotton bud.

Poor little guy - but I doubt if he's blind - just trusting you - amazing how wise they are. Well done and hope he goes on ok with you now. |

Yeah I think I'm just over-worrying about it, but he's now curled up and cozy in his warm hide.
Gonna leave him peace for a few days, and hopefully he'll be fine :)
