yeah all snakes can bite even royals, my first royal bit my mum years ago. snakes are very in the moment and don't hold grudges so try not to let it worry you or let it put you off holding him.
this coming from the person who is weary of his jungle carpet python lol. to be fair she does have the devil in her |

Its snake behaviour yes.
Royals are docile in general but can be grumpy or just get frightened.
It may be your snake is about to shed soon, that tends to make them want to be left alone. Don't let it put you off though next time may be totally different.

It may be that he was asleep. It would be handy if they had eyelids so we would be able to see when they are sleeping. I'd bite you too if you tried to pick me up after just waking me up, lol.
Has he shed yet while been with you? |

Oh they bite alright my little female seems to think it's an olympic sport lmao and if I was one of the judges she'd get gold, but it can happen for a multitude of reasons and trying to second guess when it happens will just make you very jumpy around him, just try not to pull away if he does get you as you may end up pulling a few of his teeth out. |

Mine's tried having me a few times, even going as far as banging into his viv doors to get me which honestly put me off him for a bit cause it was every time i went near him even if i was just walking past his viv. It made me think he was out to get me lol but were becoming friends again now |

Although It's not rely to do with biting lol now that It's blue you could either move the water bowl closer to the heat source or put a damp flannel or both lol this'll raise the humidity which should help with the shed... |

Yes, in my experience with my lot it has been grumpiness due to impending shed or settling in, or feeding response bites when in all innocence they mistake your hand for the rat. Use tongs lol. |
