hey gang,
just wondered if anyone has dealt with constipated snakes ?
Rudi our boa hasnt poo'd with us yet , we got her the 16th december and shes fed on 2 adult mice , and four rat fluffs ( one every 7 days) and no poop .
Shes started to look abit bloated now and i have done some research on here and and found loads of scary stuff . Someone has suggested stop feeding her till she poops , bathe her in tepid water and get her moving in the bath also get her out to excersize more as constipation can be caused by bad muscle tone ? its been hard to handle any of them as they are all being treated with mites :(

Any advice or tips ?
thanks

Yes, I've always heard that a nice swim about in the bath brings results (as long as the snake's not spooked.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flT5yHm2vHU eww graphic content ...

And as long as you've got some bleach handy ...

Also - if she hasn't gone yet ...maybe it's just that she doesn't need to go ...

Hope you get the erm.... result lol

Ummm ...hard to say ...

Ziska was in seclusion about a fortnight with shed - she doesn't go for ages before shed, and this time she shed and still didn't go, and was having armchair walkies ...every time she squeezed herself into my sleeve or down my sweater she was making these incredible farty noises (I was scared!!!! Don't mind if she bites me but hate being crapped on!!!)

But a day or two later - there it all was in her viv!

Thank heaven it wasn't on me!!!

I reckon - when Rudi goes - she'll go - and she's gonna blow!!!!

i think ive just worried now as i saw loads of scaremonger posts about constipation . and then when a big breeder said that bad muscle tone causes it i thought he meant she has bad muscle tone etc. im sure she will go soon , shes just shed and hasnt pooped either as i thought she may let rip after shedding .

It is worrying when you have to deal with something like this for the first time - I suppose I'm used to royals not going for weeks. I do notice though, that exercise seems to stimulate corns' evil little cloacas ...rather like walking a dog.

Wonder if just the exercise of a nice swim in the bath might do the job for Rudi, especially as you haven't been able to handle her much in the mite crisis (hope that's over now.) All the best with her.

id just give her a little swim. it'l help with the mites anyway and maybe get things moving down south. never had a boa tho so cant really advise on their pooing habits. sure she'l go when shes ready bud.

I have a boa who poops pretty regulary however
She is 10 times the size and on a much larger
Food prey, however I would not worry to much
My boa took nearly 11 weeks to do her first toilet
With me. so yours will go when she is ready
Giving her a Luke warm bath won't do any harm.
So try not to worry too much.
