So i'm thinking about getting what I believe is called a salmon pink birdeater... It's some kind of big scary tarantula but seem's to be slow and reletively easy to care for from what i've read.
The only things stopping me from going and buying one is the care, i've read they require a 22c heat, would I need to buy a heat mat and thermostat just for my spider or are they okay room temperatures? I can't really warrant spending a ton of heating and housing for a spider that's going to spend it's time scaring me :p

22oC sounds a smidge cold, well about the bottom temperature, mines kept at about 25-28oC. You've definitely gone for a big spinner there, lol. I've read mixed reviews on them but from my small amount of experience with one its a incredible feeder, its got a mighty burrow dug, its a little bit jumpy but not aggressive yet. Its much more likely to try blind you than bite you. I still say OBT all the way, they are crazy fast BUT they make burrows and spend near all their time tin there and providing their way isn't blocked will always leg it back to their burrow rather than fight, I've not had any aggression from my OBT.

my chilean rose spent 16 years on a unstatted heat mat but from all the stuff ive read their fine at room temps
not sure if the bird eaters need different heat.
a friend of mine is getting a pink salmon birdeater, they look quite cool
