Help, help!!!
I need an idiots guide in to how to keep the humidity in my Royal's viv up. We are having to spray his tank with warm water and put warm water in his bowl every morning, just to get the level above 30 percent. He's in a glass fronted viv with vents at the back for all his thermometers and probes. We had problems with his first shed that we put down to stress from changing viv but we don't want the same problem next time. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks all |

I'll consult with the missus as I'm at work and can't remember. Think we're using aspen as we use that for our corns. Will post again if I find out differently |

ok..and viv size, temperatures all play a part :) Orchard Bark would raise humidity definately. |

Also I've heard that hygrometers can be very unreliable in their readings - could be your humidity's fine but the reading's inaccurate. Some people say, take the batteries out and refit to get the thing working properly - others have got so exasperated that they've ditched them.
I use aspen and most of my vivs are in warm rooms although it's true I don't have my heating on much (central heating can bring your humidity down.) When a snake's in shed I put the water bowl in the warm end for colubrids; for royals I keep it in the warm end permanently. I don't spray or use damp hides usually - well, this is what works for me, in this house - all houses are different of course.
I've only ever had problems with humidity once since I learned about the water bowl thing, and that was in that freak warm spell at the beginning of October. Had some shocking sheds then. Otherwise all has been well.
Sorry I can't be of more help, but do hope your problems get resolved. |

The type and postion of the hygrometer will make a difference. NOW if its a digital and its constantly reading low it may be too close to the heat source drying the air inside the sensor. If it never moves from 30% then check your battery, mine displayed 30% when they started to go. |

Our hygrometer could be a problem because we spent a grand total of about three quid on it! May not be the most reliable bit of kit lol |
