Today I held an albino Gopher snake, I was very surprised for 2 reasons.

a) it didn't huff, puff, hiss or strike

b) it was the strongest, fastest snake I have ever held.

Bats I have a new appreciation for Ziska. This one was about 4-5 feet long and had me tied in knots trying to keep hold of it, it had such a grumpy little white face but was stunning and its keeled scales made it feel like it was vibrating as it swooshed through my hands. If I'd have had the big vivarium spare it would have been this snake I brought home but as seen in my other post I have wanted an Albino House Snake for ages and it looked at me with its beautiful eyes and I just could not resist bringing him home.

Bob! And you never brought it home????

Yes - they are a powerhouse. It sounds to have been the same size as Ziska but many pits aren't as volatile as she is; Shadrach, who's been handled a lot, is utterly gentle; Ziska stayed for a long time in the shop and just never got the socialisation I believe pits need from an early age. Even so, once you let her get it off her chest, she calms down, but as for handling her, yes, it's like arguing with about 5' of muscular and determined garden hose. (And she's not full grown yet!) Fun though - I really find it exhilarating and she seems to enjoy it, judging by the way she asks to come out for walkies, and I love the feel of them too; their rough keeled scales make them so different to handle and they're definitely more 'wild' and and far more exuberant than corns or royals.

It is true though, they do need spacious surroundings; they're a very active snake.

Saw your housie over on your other post - congrats, it's a gorgeous snake and well worth having.

It took every bit of self control to not bring 2 snakes home today, it was lovely and beautiful too. I am currently having a think on what I could do to maybe go get it soon.
