I didn't say you recommended it, I said it is recommended. By small I mean affecting one or 2 snakes, I know of someone plagued with mites in his large collection and callingtons is not effective in his experience and then a stronger insecticide is required. If you remember Sandi and her mite issue she used a stronger treatment with great success too.
In this situation though of one snake Callingtons will be effective if treatment is kept up for longer than the mite lifecycle. This is an article about these little vampire bugs http://www.vpi.com/publications/the_life_history_of_snake_mites it may give you a better understanding of these critters and their behaviour, they have limitations and the best way to defeat them is to exploit these limitations. |

Yes you did, Bob.
and yes I've already read that Vida Preciosa link - very informative and good.
Even if all 14 of my lot get the mites, I'll still use Callingtons - but the good news (cross fingers and touch wood) is that Sulah is already free of the things, although obviously I'll observe precautions and keep treating for a while yet. |

Never mind, I did not mean to imply you recommended anything ever and I'll just leave it at that rather than thread-jack to explain the reason behind the word small. The link was for the OP to get an idea of the enemy been faced, I remember showing you that one yonks ago. lol. Good to hear that Sulah is coming out the other side of mite-ness, poor thing (you and the snake) I honestly dont think many things strike fear into snake keepers more than snake mites. I'm not knocking Callingtons its good stuff. |

It's certainly worked for Sulah - and, should you ever encounter the mites yourself, Bob (which heaven forbid) I would definitely recommend the stuff, whatever you may have heard. |

Hi, Hannah - that sounds good, and fingers crossed they don't return. I haven't seen any either, touch wood; she's still eating and has just gone into blue - she must be growing; although sheds may be more frequent with mites in an attempt to slough the things off, she's never missed a meal yet. Good luck to us both and glad you enjoyed Crufts! |

I tryed feeding with no luck. Shame as I had just gotten him to eat then he got mites and hes now acting scared of the mice again. Day 2 and no mites. I took some better pics of his eyes as there worse but they do look like they may be peeling of at the side. Of course there still not good but its the best iv been able to get a focus on.

Ouch, that does look nasty. It doesn't look like mite damage really, they tend to go for the edges not the middle so its a bit of a mystery. If the shed was complete and the eyecaps came off last shed then I dont know what to say. The shimmery bits surrounding the eye also seems to look a bit like retained shed starting behind the eye and running down the nose but if its complete at the last shed then thats not possible. Puzzled would be the answer lol. |

Hi, Hannah ...I think it might be a good idea to get Koda to a specialist rep vet. Even if it's nothing much, would put your mind at rest.
All the best with him. |

Yeah I do think that would be the best way to go or if rep vets are hard to come by see if your local shop will have a look though warn them about the mites as they might not want to interact with him in these circumstances but you can always check. |
