Well, wouldn't it just happen eh?
Just over 3 weeks ago, Molly the ginger kitten moved into Bats' Belfry. I didn't know how old she was, but guessed her age at 6 months when registering her at the vets and buying some worm stuff for her.
I also arranged to get her spayed as soon as she'd settled in, and the deed is to be done tomorrow. In the last few days have seen her settling in more and gaining acceptance from the Big Cats (Emily, Mouse and Finn.)
I've spent today organising her carrying box (which has been left in the living room for several days for her to get used to it, but has had a clean blanket put in it today) planning Madam's menu for when she comes home tomorrow (braised turkey leg) and generally feeling concerned and guilty and telling her that she can't have kittens due to the huge number of unwanted cats and kittens in the world, but that she'll soon forget she was ever at the vet's for her little operation.
Well. Half an hour ago she bounced downstairs and visited her tray and came trilling back through into the living room. She's always been quite a vocal little cat ...but ...
Mrrrrr! Rrrrrou! RRRROOOWWWWW!!!!
Oh No!
I've heard that before!
I used to breed Siamese and I've heard that before!
She's calling!
I stroked her back and instead of using my hand as a punchbag she raised her backside in the air and switched her tail to one side and trilled operatically.
Cats in call (oestrus/on heat) can't be spayed as the blood vessels of womb and ovaries become engorged; it can be dangerous to operate. But once they start calling there's a danger of them never stopping, so very hard to tell when it's safe to operate.
She can't roam as the back garden is wired in, and she's very happy flirting with Finn (likes older men.) Over the past week he's been happy to let her play with his tail ...

But not sure if he can deal with a shameless hussy ....

Oh well, tonight I will just have to take the food bowls up as advised and ring the vet's first thing and ask them if they can possibly spay a newly calling ...shameless ...hussy ... |

Well, it's official. I thought she'd gone off the boil this morning as young female cats can, and my hopes were raised but still had a word with the vet - definitely not safe to spay her.
Fed the cats and Madam ate a huge breakfast and promptly announced to the world that she Wants a Man. Finn will have to come out of retirement!
If only I'd booked her in last week!
There's only one good thing about it all - just glad I took her when I did, because, left to roam as she was, in a day or two she'd have been mated and there'd have been more unwanted kittens in the street...
In the meantime ...Good golly Miss Molly! |

Well that's unfortunate! We had our female staff booked in to get done after a season but her body had gone into phantom pregnancy so we had to wait... Weeks!!!
I remember when Ebony (our female cat) was in heat! She kept rolling around on her back and making that god awful noise all night and day! And walking round with her back end up constantly! But somehow the little madam managed to get out the local stud of the street got her, she had one all grey gorgeous little kitten that we developed such a bond with that we decided to keep him, not so little DK turned one on sunday
Oh and good luck with her |

Thanks, Austin - Lol - Molly's voice is nothing compared with this ...I had a blue point girl who came into call at 5 months and never stopped ...happy days!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufoqrr-ToiI
But if your Ebony's got any Siamese or Oriental blood, yes she'll have had quite a voice ...I had a seal point called Majdhar (otherwise known as the Gibbon, as every mealtime was a case of a little Gibbon take) and when she was calling I'd ask her, 'what are you making?'
Back would come the answer in full-throated Siamese - 'A RRROWWWW!'
Naughty Ebony - they're escapologists when they're in that state, but at least you got DK, bless him.
I had a part Siamese cat called George and he would mate the blue point, Jacinth, and keep her happy ...until she went into phantom pregnancy like your Staffy ...oh boy ...
Ooops - amendment! George WAS neutered!
Never a dull moment around animals lol! |

Lol - Molly was the same - she went upstairs to find it!
You imagine that all day ...and all night. I used to have to sleep in the spare room and cuddle the cat when she started, so as to give my partner chance to get some sleep.
Just amended that previous post as I'd forgotten to say George WAS neutered - although he knew what to do all right - one memorable night he and Jacinth enacted a blue-point movie on the uncurtained front windowsill ... |

I think ebony is just a domestic slightly long haired black cat but she's absolutely beautiful she's only a little cat but made a big noise, really really loud! We had DK neutered as soon as cause we didn't want him going out fathering kittens because the amount of stray and unwanted cats round here and well everywhere... I'll post a couple of pictures of the 2 of em when I get on the laptop, I'm on my phone at the min |

This is DK he's 1 year and 2 days old

And his mum, Ebony

And seeing as were sharing, here's my pride and joy, Alfie he's 2 years old... We had a female aswell but sadly had to rehome her as after 18 months together she started attacking Alfie and the fights got really bad

This was our female... Suki

Aww they are beautiful - DK looks a bit like a Russian Blue and Ebony looks a right little madam - she's lovely, and the staffies are gorgeous, such a shame you couldn't keep them both but dogs can be very jealous. I had the same situation decades ago with an Alsatian and collie cross Alsatian; luckily my sister's friend fell in love with the crossbred and resolved the problem for me, but it was a right power struggle up till then.
Great pics! |

Thanks, i wasnt really a cat person till tasha moved in with Ebony, who we didnt know was pregnant! So ebony and 3 kittens later i started growing quite fond of cats then when DK was born i fell in love with him, we really bonded aswell cause he spent the first couple of weeks of his life with just me and it got to the point where he'd try to get tasha out of our bed so he could have "his" side back! (i should probably explain that tasha was away for 2 weeks and he slept on her pillow!)
Yeah we were gutted when we realised we'd have to re home, we loved her to bits but in the last couple of fights she was going for Alfie's throat and wouldnt let go
But thank you, i do love to take photos |

Lol- reminds me of the joke about the pet gorilla.
What do you call him? - Sir.
Where does he sleep? - Where he bloody well likes.
Erm, sounds like my cats, and a snake from time to time ... |

Haha that does sound about right! Lol I'll not Let the snakes hide under the duvet seeing as the last time Kane went in the folds of the duvet he struck at me when I moved it to take his picture!
I know I shouldn't but I had the unnamed one out for a couple of mins earlier, he/she's gorgeous! |

Well, she went off call on Saturday, though this didn't stop her snuggling up to Finn ...

And then today, the deed was done ...

She arrived home with a weird punk-kitten hairdo, ate a load of fish and has been a total pain, despite the vet nurse advising me that she'd probably chill out ...poor little thing, at least her fur will grow back, but, being a teen-kitten, she probably hopes I'll buy her some purple spangles, black claw varnish, stick on tats ...ohh dear, mind boggles ... |

Ah, I know, a bit insensitive, to say the least ... but Molly doesn't realise, which is the main thing, and at least she'll never have to go through this again or suffer frustration about not finding a husband ...ie TCS - Tarty Cat Syndrome - VERY wearing on cat and owner lol! |
