Yeah I was wondering how some kind of studding plan would work but decided that most female owners would not want to put their females at risk even for a good potential yield and owners of the males wouldn't want them away for maybe 6 months with a few months of quarantine and then a few months of locks. |

Yes, mites, RI, even IBD if the python has been kept in the same area as boas ...all this is worst case scenario stuff and may well not happen, but precautions need to be taken ...my little carpet had been with me for 3 weeks when I found the first mites, despite extreme vigilance on my part ...now your average mite only lives 3 weeks.
Hadn't been in contact with any other snakes other than my own, other snake keepers, even gone into any rep or pet shops.
So it can happen. |

cherrs for the replys,we got drogo without any records so dont know of any past problems however hes been with us since november and being our first snake we have very atentive lol have never seen any mites or any sings of ri but i never considered the fact of quarentien just thort as hes ready ie fasting then getting him mated might shorten the fast.
the "deal" for want of a better word that we was hoping for was him mating and if sucsessfull we would get a 1/2 females of the clutch.the owner of the female cud then do what thay wanted with the rest. that way in a few years time we could mate drogo with one of his ofspring to bring out the pied gene thats if he is het pied.
i thinks thats how it works lol

I suppose the deciding factor would be location really, I mean, I wouldn't be complete against the idea, but as the owner of a female I wouldnt want the responsibilty of looking after some one elses snake for more than a night or two - If they were local however then they could pop over for a cuppa
Isn't breeding season October to January anyway?? |

the problem with doing breeding loans is you really need to know the person before hand you have to draw up contracts and everything for every sinario, and then go from there. can be complicated, but can also be worth it in the end |

You might have better luck with a high end visual morph or guaranteed 100% het (ie with papers) but it would probably mean not seeing your royal (unless his lady love lived locally) for about 6 months of the year.
If I were you I'd buy Drogo a little 100% het pied girlfriend and in a couple of years you can have a bit of fun breeding them yourself. (And so will the snakes, no doubt ...) |
