Hi i am a new snake owner and have owned my royal python for a few weeks now with no problems, however today i changed the substrate from aspen to forrest floor type stuff which a reptile store recommended, sinse the new substrate has been added the humidity seems too high leaving the glass misty with condensation, the humidity level reads 70 on the hygrometer and temperatures around 28C, i have added an extra vent hole but this still hasnt helped with the condensation, any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Assuming that is like orchid bark - yeah, it holds moisture well!! I open the bag and let it air off for a few days before putting it into my viv, just to release some of the moisture.

Short periods of high humidity are nothing to worry about, if you get the chance, take your snake out for an hour or so and leave the viv doors open to get some air in there and clear some of the condensation out. Should clear in no time.

Ah. I know the stuff you mean though have never used it myself.

A lot of people bake half of it in the oven just to get the wet out of it and then add it to the viv once it's cooled. You may see little bugs running about in it too but these are harmless.

Yep I bake it in the oven to dry it out a bit if the bag is freshly opened, once its open though it will dry out. Ideally the substrate should be dry for a Royal.
