When I got Sulah, my Irian Jaya Carpet, I did a bit of research and learned that these guys can perch just like GTPs ...
She seems to be mite free now (touch wood!) and in a week she'll be out of her 3 month quarantine period. She's eating like a tiger - never missed a meal - and very gentle - SO pleased with her! |

Thanks guys - yeah she loves being up there and I think she was pretty depressed when she had mites and had to stay in a setup with no branches etc.
Yeah, Blackskull I was told she could be quite feisty, as carpets usually are, and I'm amazed at how laid back she is. Not that I've done much handling in the circs; I've let her slide through my hands in the viv but one end or the other of her clung to her branch, but she was very well mannered. Approached her with the recommended open palm but she never offered to tag me lol.
Can't wait for proper armchair walkies! |

Aww lovely little mat or rug not a fully grown carpet yet.
They are quite closely related to GTP's if I rememebr rightly, you can cross them too i think, little astroturfs.
Cilla sounds like fun Blackskull, I'll look forward to pictures of her holding you. |

Aww naughty Cilla - best of luck with the cleaning out, Blackskull! Yes - we want pics!
Thanks Bob - little rug lol! Yeah she is what is sometimes called a chondro - my photos are lousy but she has that same funny face as a GTP. I'd heard that, too that they can be crossbred - makes me wonder though which parent the offspring would take after, regarding care requirements. Sulah is as easy as a royal to keep - easier in fact as to feeding, but GTPs are specialist snakes in every way from what I hear. |

Cool picture, went to my local store today, there was some guy giving back his as he claimed it was to feisty, he was walking around holding it in his arms. saying this. Then along came an old lady stoped an asked for a hold it just crawled onto her as if it new her no feistiness at all. He looked shocked. I just smiled and walked on. |

Lol - you're not kidding, Chris - especially as they're not guaranteed to breed true - so they're pretty rare.
Aw Richard - that's so sad! I'm assuming you mean a carpet that the guy was giving back - lol, and that woman who'd never met it just took it and handled it fine ... Sounds like it would be handled with a bit of confidence and understanding, hope it found a good home. |
