Thanks for all the help guys. I pass The Ark on my way home from work, in fact I'm planning to stop there this evening and get a couple of rats for her to try as from what I've read she's too big to be on mice.

Speaking of feeding, the vet said that we shouldn't feed her until after she's pooed. It was last Friday that we had her in and thus far she has not left us anything. It's eleven days since her last feed so she's due another, and while I know they can go ages without food I don't like to think that she's hungry.

I'm planning to ring the vet to check, but the thought occurs that if she was emptied when she had her bum flushed then surely she's not going to poo until after she's eaten?

Specialist Reptile Vet?

Did they say why to wait?

Royals can go a month or two without pooing and if they're empty, you'll probably be waiting a long time!

I don't know if she's a reptile specialist per se, but she does specialise in exotic pets and keeps reptiles herself. She didn't say why to wait, and I should have asked but didn't. I assume it was to check to see if she was pooing naturally.

My thinking was along the same lines as yours BE, but thought I'd check on here to see what you experienced people thought.

I wouldn't want to overrule a vet, but would be interested to know why.

I think she's only there Thursdays and Fridays, I'll give her a call and will let you know what she says.

The vet's called back. I explained that Princess has yet to poo, but that she's been active and roaming around looking for food. She said that if she seemed fine in herself then she was happy for us to start feeding again, but to keep an eye on her, check her for lumps and bring her back in if there are any problems.

I did ask why she'd said not to feed her until she'd pooed, and she said that she'd always been taught that with snakes it was best not to feed if nothing was coming out to avoid impaction. She did agree that if she'd emptied Princess when she was flushed out then she wasn't going to poo.

I'll be offering her a rat this evening. :-)

Well, this evening I offered her a small rat and she struck almost immediately and scoffed it. I got four small rats not much bigger than the large mice that she'd been on because I didn't want to over face her with prey too different to what she was used to. Seeing as how she took that one happily I'll get some bigger ones next time.

I thought royals were supposed to be picky eaters?

Well done Chris, odd vet though, glad that once you'd pointed out that there was nothing in her that waiting for poo was odd she realised.
