FAO of Hayden and anyone else who thinks their snake won't periscope for them.
I chose the theme because a periscope is usually a sign of an inquisitive and curious snake, something we all love to see. I've never seen mine do it inside her tank but sometimes on outings if I leave her to her own devices she will do a quick one. I haven't been able to get a good photo before because I usually only have my phone handy and as well as that periscoping leaves the head and neck quite exposed which can of course make some royals feel very nervous.
I recommend next time you take your snake out for walkies, if you want to get a photo for the comp, you should leave him or her to his or her own devices for a little bit. Let them have a wander. It helps especially to keep the space big. Either on a shelf or table or bed or on a floor with the nearest wall as far away as possible.
Sit yourself tight and keep the camera handy! You don't want to have to move around and get out the camera when they're periscoping I reckon, you want to just take a photo with as little movement as possible.
Mine is in shed right now (should happen by tomorrow morning if all goes to plan) but I know that once she's done she'll be hungry and curious and eager to get out after so much time cooped up inside. Hopefully over the next 18 days I'll be given the opportunity to take a photograph of madam, should she decide to periscope! |
