Just bought a Royal Python, it keeps burying itself under the heat mat, any suggestions?

If your using a viv put some newspaper down on top of it. Sounds like hes looking for somewhere to hide more than anything else. You need some nice small hides so he`ll feel nice and secure.

Royals owned "lots"

I have a small royal in a 2' viv with a statted mat (he will move to a setup with statted guarded heat bulb when he's older as larger royals and heatmats are bad news due to thermal blocking of course.)

Royals do love dimness; Sharif has a towel draped over the window of his cold side, and a hide there; and a warm end hide weighing down the heat mat, and a kitchen roll inner too (just to give him a bit of choice lol.) On top of his warm hide there is also a plastic 'plant mat' - a decorative thing they use in aquariums, that I just happened to have; this adds extra cover and dimness.

So far he's been a good lad and lived in his hides but of course you never know when the snake's going to break out and have a makeover and burrow under everything lol.
