Hi guys,

I'm new here (obv)

Thinking of adding a Royal to my collection of pets at the minute which is a flame crested gecko, asian forest scorpion and my newest avicularia versicolor.

I am going to be making along with my brother a cabinet to house them all - at the moment the versicolor and the cresty are in the 12 x 12 x 18 exo terra's and the scorp in the 12 x 12 x 12.

Not sure what to do about the royal and was hoping for some advice.

My original plan was to house the 3 tanks underneath, then have a main tank above to house the royal that would be approx 36 x 12 x 18 L,D,H but if i get a baby royal I imagine this would be far too big?

I do have a spare 12 x 12 x 12 exo terra but would this be far too small?

So, do I buy a medium sized royal around 2foot that I know is captive bred and feeding?

Would love your feedback.

Thanks

Dave.

Hi Dave, and Welcome :)

The captive bred Royal you mentioned sounds good to me, for housing you take the length of the snake , then the length x width of the enclosure in this case its 24" so that's the minimub size really:)

Ok cool.

So if for example I found one that was around 2 foot, a 3 foot enclosure would be suitable.

And what about temprement? Do snakes get to know there owners? My concern here is two fold, would a smaller snake that has grown up with me be more likely to accept my handling than an adult snake that has been handled by someone else?

I know this may seem like a strange question but I want to make sure I make the right decision for both me and the snake.

A 2 foot snake should be fine in a 3' viv, just pack it out with fake plants, they like clutter.

Temperament.hmm if its been well handled, I can't see problems for you. I think they do get to know their owners..my lot are all dopey lol
I bought mine when there were 9.5 months old, so none were babies, at least a little older feeding is less stressful for you.

well, i'm very much into my naturalistic looking vivariums ( I will post some pics of my current setups ) so it will be very full with plants etc - hopefully all real.

As for stressful eating - my scorp didnt eat for 3 months - why they do these things to us I do not know.

Thank you very much for your advice so far.
