Hi guys being lazy I used heatmats with twin channel thermostats for my rack. Im just wondering what temps I should use? Obviously mat stats don't keep the same temps they have a range, currently I run the mats at 33 high and 30 low if you know what I mean. But when handling the snakes are quite warm so im wondering if I should lower the temp or not? |

I think this is one of those "what works best for you" kinda question. From listening to several sources, reading up on lots of forums and keeping my own animals I've heard anywhere between 87-95c
I was running at 92-93c max and found that ok, aim for somewhere in the middle and adjust if your snakes show signs that they aren't comfortable |

What do you guys think, will heat mat be enough to heat rack in winter time? I work 12 hours shift so when I'm out of the house temp in my room drop a lot. I'm still trying to choose between rack and vivs however vivs take too much room. But if I won't be able to keep temp on the right level there is no point to build a rack. |

Classic trade off between the size of vivs and heating a rack system. You could always run a small heater in the room with the door shut to help keep temps up in winter |

Cheers Fezza. I thought about heating my room for 24/7 but I don't think I want to see my energy bill after that. I do have only 3 snakes and my room is massive so it could be expensive to heat it up thats why I asked if heat mats would be enough to keep temp on the right level. I'm still looking for any good solution before they grow and hopefully will find some help here. |

Are the heat mats the same watt and make?
How are you reading the temp ?
I thought when I first got my rack they were different temps I was using digital thermometers I now use an IR heat gun and the mats All read the same give or take 1c
If you don't have a IR heat gun I'd recommend one There great |

That's really nice, thanks. I was thinking about rack as I'm nearly sure I will end up having more snakes and possibly breed them. But even for 5,6,7 or even more heating a whole room seems to be very expensive. I think I will ask about it in a separte topic but I'm quite interested how much you guys pay for your bills having so many snakes. |

im planning on building a rack too as i want to breed eventually and the room i have my snakes in is a disused dinning room which is quite big and gets cold in winter, even now the cold end temps in my viv are only 22-23 degrees so was planning on using one of those oil filled radiators that plug in next no viv or rack to increase the ambient air around them. not sure how much my electric bill will change doing this? i would also be interested in other peoples methods and costs cos surely you all dont heat your whole house to 27 degrees 24/7 in winter lol |
