| We didnt think it was havent tried him with anything bigger as he has only fed 3 times, he gets extremely active about 3 to 4 days after his feed and even though we assisting him he gobbles it up without hesitation! What would you suggest we try him with? |

If you go by his weight
Let's say his 120g
So he can take a rat/mouse
That's 12/18 grams
If you can't weigh him
Hold the rat/mouse beside his thickest part on the body and find one that's the same size |

You've made it a bit difficult by spreading this one subject/question over 4 posts including the picture post.
Looking at the picture of the pinkie been eaten its about half the size of the snakes head, its way too small.

| We bought him 2 wks ago and was told he was approx 4 wks old when i weighted him on friday he was weighing 1 1/8 oz which converts to 39 grams, he is tiny so we unsure on age and whether he is getting enough food!! Although he is a very happy active snake! |

Active does not necessarily mean happy. A happy Royal is a still one. They explore at night, but if its constantly on the go its not settled at all its looking for somewhere to settle.

I would have thought at 39 grams he was fresh out of the egg
They normal pop out at 50g-90g
So was a small hatchling at pipping
Do you have no luck at him striking at his food
Also did you ask how many feeds he had |

He is a 3ft Viv with a medium sized hide (which he enjoys basking on top of and has his dark space when he wants to hide), his water bowl and kitchen roll holder (which we were told by the shop we bought him from would be fine) the temp is on a thermostat that reads at its hottest 88, he is currently located in our living room but we thnkng about moving him upstairs, he is a very active snake and is handled for about 15min per day, he also roams around the living room quite happily. Please can you give us any information that will help him grow and be healthy, as he is already a much loved member of our family!!

| He had been fed once (assisted) before we bought him @ approx 4wks old, he hasnt striked for his food yet, but it would also appear that the feed isnt large enough, what can we do to help him!! |

To be honest
You shouldn't have to be doing this (the breeder should be)
But it looks like your doing a great job
Maybe up his temp to 90f (measured with a digital thermometer not the thermostat as there not the best to go by)
Up his food to the next size up (what every your supplier goes by)
He will get the hang of striking at his food
It's just its all new at the moment for him
And moving from what he knew to a new home

| My underfed Angel whom was assist fed as well was only 34g after her courier trip from up north down to me, I immediately started force-feeding, then assist and finally live feeding. |

On the settling him front I personally think a three foot vivarium might be a bit big for such a tiny snake (my shy Royal is 4 foot long and 1.5kg and in a 3 foot), you could get a big piece of thick cardboard and section off a small area for him, will help him feel more secure and may settle him. About a foot wide would be plenty for now. It may help with him starting feeding too.
I agree with Del too that it does sound like a fresh out of the egg non feeder that has maybe not eaten for a few months as it looks like he has lost a bit of weight so assist feeding is absolutely the right thing to do in these circumstances, get some fat back on him. You could maybe one of the weeks leaving the rat in overnight (put in about midnight) and if he doesn't feed you can assist in the morning, give him a chance to feed on his own steam, the rat will still be edible, Duke my shy guy often leaves his rat overnight but will eat it through the next day, I will only remove it once I get home from work that afternoon.
You have taken on a mammoth task, i'm not sure if this is your first venture into snakes but it is quite the crash course, many experienced keepers have never had to learn how to deal with assist feeding, I have as I was looking at fostering some non feeding hatchlings until they fed and could be sold (still working on it). |
