Posted - 10/07/2013 : 20:12:20 Hi guys,
New to the forum and just about to get my first (of many??)...
The Royal Python I am getting is around 4 months old and about 20cm.
I have just bought a setup which consists of a Komodo 48x31x18cm Plastic Terrarium, Prorep Heat Mat, Orchid Bark, Habba Hut (large) for heated area and a Komodo Wooden Hide (medium) for cooler end, Komodo thermometer and hygrometer plus a small water bowl.
I'm also about to buy a Habistat Pulse Reptile Vivarium Thermostat 600w.
I've been chatting with Kelfezond briefly today and he's been very helpful! Just wanted to check that everything is cool with my set-up. I'm not picking him up until next Friday so wanted to get it all in place so that I can iron out any problems.
Hope it all sounds good, any suggestions would be very welcome!
Cheers,

Posted - 13/07/2013 : 00:05:26 I think that's my problem... Overthinker. I will set it up and see how it goes for a couple of days.
I've got plenty of time until next Friday... Can't wait!
Even though once I get him I won't be to handle him for a week. :( |

Well i'd move him upto a larger rub first.A normal really useful box,not some reptile branded thing.
Or a viv depends on the snake, how he is with you etc. |

Posted - 12/07/2013 : 16:21:58 Try not to over think things,It's a royal and not a gtp or something needing spot on humidity etc etc.If you're still worried about the humidity. When he's coming into shed, mist the rub or place damp moss in a hide.
Most don't even own hygrometers :) |

Posted - 12/07/2013 : 15:01:04 Just had my digital thermometer and hygrometer delivered and its at 46% and 23.5c that's just in the terra with nothing set up. I figure its gonna be fine in there once the heat mat is up and running but will have to wait for the habistat to turn up before I start finding accurate levels.
I have to check with the wife on the enclosure anyway as I want her to be happy with it too.
Thanks again for your words of wisdom boomslang.

Most rub type things, have more or less clear sides. It's not something you really need to worry about.
The plastic lid is made from jelly bendy cheap plastic,I agree with you there hehe. But it clips on ok and he would'nt be albe to push the lid of.

The holes will let in humid air from the room. Its on a mat,so you don't have a bulb sucking the humidity away.the humidity in that rub shouldn't drop below an ok percentage.
The royal will be fine, nothing you can't handle at shed time, with afew mistings :) |

Will have a think and decide later.

Posted - 11/07/2013 : 23:46:02 I own a Komodo terraruim,you sure a bigger water bowl will fit?plus a bigger hide :P and fake plants etc :)
Use it until you can't add bigger hides etc, then buy a normal rub :) then a viv if you plan to go that way.
Also yes,pictures would be great :) |

Posted - 11/07/2013 : 23:38:53 Yep, one is smaller than the other.
I will use the smaller one over the hotter end and switch when he gets a bit bigger. If the smaller one is no good I will buy another.
I'm thinking about getting some artificial plants too? Plus a bigger water bowl.
I know pics speak louder than words so once its up and running I'm sure you guys will help out.
:o)
I really appreciate all your help mate.

Posted - 11/07/2013 : 23:29:25 Hi buddy.
I'm gonna set it up once my habistat comes over the weekend.
I will take pics and post them up so you guys can correct me if I'm wrong.
Hopefully it will be up and running for around 3 days before he gets in his new home!
