Weight to feeding schedule, not a rule, more of a guide. Hasn't let me down.
1-500 grams = feed every 5 days 501-1000 = every 7 days 1001-1500 = every 10 days 1500+ = every 14 days
Looks like a very good guide there |

Posted - 01/09/2013 : 10:53:25 Why don't you want to up his feed too fast? If he's ready for the next size then feed him them. I don't remember my royal being on smalls for very long at all?!? |

I tried that, he won't touch a mouse if it's been near a rat lol. I've accepted the fact that im going to have to give him mouse after mouse as he grows now!
But either way. Phlegmatical snake is still getting the required food that a snake needs.
I would suggest putting him onto mediums. For a month and then onto large. He needs the minimum required food amount. And currently isn't getting it. |

Posted - 01/09/2013 : 09:33:38 I also agree with the above.
As an example my Normal weighs 235g and is a year old today. She's taking a 20-30g Rat every week. My Fire Pinstripe is a year and two months & weighs 500g, she takes a 40-50g Rat every week.
My normal had been a really fussy eater when I first got her but now she's a proper little pig. I got her onto rats with no trouble by warming the rat in the same box as a mouse with the hairdryer. As soon as she gets a sniff of it she periscopes up out of her RUB looking for the food, great fun to watch & very satisfying to see.
So I guess if you can get yours eating a 30g mouse or rat once a week you'll soon see a regular shed pattern. Mine shed every three months (roughly) |

Posted - 01/09/2013 : 00:40:39 Yeah he should defiantly be on a large. I would up him to a large straight away. There no harm in doing that. He'll feel better for it. Possibly more lively. And more active. He'll grow quicker and have a more strengthened and sturdier body.
What's the reason for not upping his food fast?
Imagine a shed is a coat. As someone grows the bigger the coat. So as your snake gets bigger. He'll need to she'd the smaller shed off in order to grow.
In the long run your not being fair to the snake. He needs the bigger meals in order to grow and live a healthy life.
How old is the snake? You say you had his 6 months. That since birth? Or is he older? |

Posted - 01/09/2013 : 00:06:26 My snake weighs around 330 grams, and he gets fed every Tuesday. I would say he can definitely eat a large but i don't want to up his feed too fast. |

Posted - 31/08/2013 : 23:20:25 How often do you feed him?!What's the weight of him? As he may not be eating as much as what he should need
The size if food should be around 10-15% weight of your snake.
Say your snake weighs 100g he should eat 10-15g mouse.
Mine is coming up a year old and has been on large mice since I got him just before Christmas. And sheds every month or two
