Just a bit of curisoty ...
As soon as some one opens the door in my house the temp drops very quickly in the viv.
Humidity also drops quickly down to 32 odd in a day.
Got two bottom vents and three tops in a four footer.
Yes i know its a large viv but is cluttered.
Snake is fine eating well.

Got a 3ft Viv delivered from local shop.
Sealing that up tonight and she can move tomorrow.
Other Viv will be for sale as surplus now.

Just raised the floor 4 inches as there was still to much variation.
So less space means less too heat.
rising well at the moment.

All that sounds about right TBH.

I personally wouldnt put the water bowl directly under the heat source to increase the humidity as the water will not remain fresh for long. I keep mine round about 1/3 in from side in the cool end.

Have you tried using a larger water bowl to increase the humidity...?

Wot size is your current one...?

Where and what heat source you using and what humidity to you get now?

60watt red heat bulb with dimmer thermostat, humidity 50-54%

Thats economical.
Its still at 50%
Will be getting a smaller viv soon so will have to go through it all again.

i have a 3ft with a whole strip vent the length of my viv and even if i have my bedroom window open and everything it only drops a couple of degrees(this is my corn btw)
madmez Posted - 15/11/2009 : 20:07:12
I reckon the problem of heat dropping is down to the viv being low down.
The temps are fine.As long as the doors closed.
If you open the viv doors up it goes back up to temps in about ten mins.readings all taken on the substrate.
Its about a foot above the floor and we a have a cellar no carpet..
Well ive just put a big ashtray under the ceramic with water in it.
See if that will raise it
Got 250w cermaic in there now.
About two thirds along.
The viv is just over 2ft tall as well as two foot wide!

Got spare bulbs, heatmats, ceramics and pulse stats so could easily use these.

If temps drop that easy then perhaps you could do with revising what heating you are using?
madmez Posted - 15/11/2009 : 14:34:27
digital... goes to 50 odd outside viv.
matty18714 Posted - 15/11/2009 : 13:27:46
How are you measuring humidity?
madmez Posted - 15/11/2009 : 12:32:21
Ive blocked four!
Got slight gaps on the viv doors where they shut in the middle so that vents as well.
Will carry on and see how it does.
Re misted this morning and humidity is at 54.
tick tock time will tell....
dazb Posted - 15/11/2009 : 09:55:40

Where are yours and do you have the same problems.
Would it be ok to block two lower ones?
