hi all,

getting so excited now having my new royal dropped off in the morning, i have a faun already setup for her. going to leave her alone for a couple of feeds then start to handle her, any tips or advice that i might find usefull - she is a normal female by the way

Hi Simon. Do try not to panic. Although ideally we'd like them to feed every week they can survive months without food so although inconvenient a few weeks without feeding shouldn't do too much harm. In fact I didn't even bother trying to feed Bruce for 2 weeks until after I got him as I figured he would be way too stressed from the relocation to be interested in food. Keep an eye on your new one's weight but otherwise just keep trying every 5 days. If still no luck you could try splitting the skull to expose the brain as although quite icky, the scent is much more tempting and helps direct the python where to strike?
Good luck - keep us updated x

hiya hun, dont worry, just leave it another 5 days then try again, just offer one not both, we tend to get stressed more than they do. plus if you have just changed her from a rub to a faun, she is gonna need to settle in there. I had same prob with sheba, but be patient and she will eat when she is ready. :)

anybody? as i dont know what to do....
boost-boy74 Posted - 21/07/2010 : 12:58:28
hi again,

right heated it up and offered her a rat pup and i also tryed a fluff mice....came up to both and that was it
then just went back in her hide, i just changed her to a 9l rub which is smaller than a faunarium, how long do i need to wait to offer her food again? also i have treated her for mites as i did not know where she came from......

hi, cheers for that i will do as you say and give it a blast with the hair dryer, and reoffer in a week to 5 days.....will keep you updated cheers simon

as above. and make sure you warm the food item up well before offering . giving it a good blast with a hair dyer i think works best. then hold it a couple of inches away from her and give it a bit of a wiggle. if she is interested. she will come to it and there will be a lot of tougue flicking.

I'd take it out and then try again when its dark, after 9 as they're nocturnal. If she still doesn't take it then you can leave it in overnight. If still no joy then try again in 5-7 days.

hi,

she has been settling in for a week, offered her some food today and she does not seem that interested. What do i do now - should i leave the food in the viv overnight? cheers simon

thanks everyone - was having a panic for a moment lol, settled in to her hide now with just her head poking out
spor Posted - 07/07/2010 : 22:25:52
all normal as you can read from others. mine either found a hide. lay on top of one or some of them climbed a branch and sat there for a couple of hours.
heaton177 Posted - 07/07/2010 : 18:07:06

mine hid in teh corner behind his hide for days, then eventually moved into his hide for a week
boost-boy74 Posted - 07/07/2010 : 16:03:23
cheers - she is laying in the corner on the cold side, not in either of her hides though? is this normal.....
Blackecho Posted - 07/07/2010 : 14:50:06
Exploring, then you'll probably not see her for a while, perfectly normal.
