I wouldn't throw the sand away though - if you don't know a lizard (don't some lizards live on sand substrate?) who can use it, offer it to a gardener who will undoubtedly use it for something. The least they can do in return is give you some nice veg/flowers come summer.

Hi, Pompey, as far as I know aubiose is almost the same as aspen, so could be a good idea to cook it.

no, as the snad gets in between all the scales and can be an irratent to the snake, best to either stick to aspen/aubiose, kitchen towel

i know its not recomended but can a snake be kept on calcium sand? i dont have any snakes yet but just bought a new viv stack and it came with quite alot of it but thought it would be a waist to just throw it away

LOL You mean like pizza flambe and shepherds' pyromaniac???

To say nothing of the specialite de maison, burger brulee?

My star turn used to be the highly dangerous self destructing baked bean toastie!

Cheers guys - I'm assuming that's gas mark 4 or 5.

Naughty Danny!

I use 160C if I'm baking anything for a viv.
GMac Posted - 01/12/2010 : 19:27:11
100 deg C is fine for the aspen

Hi, Robert, what oven temperature do you recommend for baking aspen? I've had no problems with it but after being told by Surahi's previous owners that they recommend baking/microwaving substrate, I reckon I'll do that just to be on the safe side. Thanks!

hi, Danny, i never thought aspen needed further treatment but the women who I bought Surahi from today said that in their opinion mites could survive in it, and to microwave it before use ... never knew!
reptiledanny Posted - 29/11/2010 : 19:15:27
i dont do anything to my aspen, just use it, sometimes give it a slight shake to gte rid of dust but thats it, is it important to bake it?
