Hi. In need of advice again
My snake coiled up in her water bath about five hours ago and apart from a little tongue flicking hasn't moved since. Any ideas why? It's the first time I've seen her show the slightest interest in the water. She looks very cute in there but is it ok to leave her?

also if u have other snakes near where u keep ur royal check them over, give their tanks a good clean and keep them in a seperate room.

yes, like hodgie sed, sounds like mites, if i was u, i would take everything out the cage, and clean it. there is the link above in the other post telling u how to treat mites, that will help.

Sounds like she might have mites.

she moved out after about 17 hours! she coiled herself around the IR light basket for about an hour. in the meantime i took out the water bath and put it on a white piece of paper. i saw a very few black specks but i did see flakes of skin. i will check again today as she has gone in again.

shes prob moved out the water bowl by now, if not then yes, move her out, and check her over now

I would take her out instead of waiting, just have a check over. Also raise your humidity up. good luck.

thanks guys - as ever, helpful tips. the temp at the warm end is 33 and humidity 35. don't have central heating and AC now off for the winter. i will look for mites once she comes out. what do i need to do if she has them?
hodgie Posted - 18/12/2010 : 22:02:56
Just keep an eye on your temps, if they are fine then check for mites when snakey comes out.

Hi its fine to leave her in there she won't "Die" < from being in there , and there could be many reasons to why she is in it ranging from the following:

She likes water baths

She could be trying to drown MITES

She could be to hot

She just wants to go swimming

And so on ..

Hope that helps with your question.

As danny said also
1. insecurity, do you have at least 2 tight fitting hides.
2. Coming up to a shed, What' s the humidity in the viv. Central heating can dry the air a lot.

she will be fine, as soon as she feels like she needs to move she will
the thing you should be looking at are why she is in her water bowl. when she evenually leaves have a look in her water bowl if there are any little black dots, these are mites, as this is one reason why royals curl up in there water bowls, to get rid of mites
i think, and dont quote me on this one, that another reason is that they are too warm, so cool down in there water bowl.
