Yes, in my experience with my lot it has been grumpiness due to impending shed or settling in, or feeding response bites when in all innocence they mistake your hand for the rat. Use tongs lol.

mine hissed at me yesterday for the first time, but he is getting ready to shed,i put it down to his eye caps being blued, and he cant see well,up untill then he have been such a friendlf soul.

Sometime when I move my hide he over or check under the hide he starts hissing but once he is out he is ok

Already moved the bowl and sorted his moss box
reptilemadd Posted - 20/01/2012 : 18:56:39
Although It's not rely to do with biting lol now that It's blue you could either move the water bowl closer to the heat source or put a damp flannel or both lol this'll raise the humidity which should help with the shed...

Mines been going blue for the past couple of days and today was feeding day, just gone to try and he's really blue! Bless him his eyes are all cloudy... It's his 2nd shed with me and his 1st one was just a mess so fingers crossed this one is ok
Nathlovessnakes Posted - 20/01/2012 : 17:54:04
Hi thanks for all your replies, he has been really quiet today so i think he's getting ready to shed,as he's not done so with us yet. But thanks for all your advice you have all put my mind at rest!I'll keep you posted.
austin_89 Posted - 20/01/2012 : 10:14:37
Mine's tried having me a few times, even going as far as banging into his viv doors to get me which honestly put me off him for a bit cause it was every time i went near him even if i was just walking past his viv. It made me think he was out to get me lol but were becoming friends again now
reptilemadd Posted - 19/01/2012 : 22:00:28
Oh they bite alright my little female seems to think it's an olympic sport lmao and if I was one of the judges she'd get gold, but it can happen for a multitude of reasons and trying to second guess when it happens will just make you very jumpy around him, just try not to pull away if he does get you as you may end up pulling a few of his teeth out.
blackskull Posted - 19/01/2012 : 21:44:00
they can startle easily, well mine do. only put my glasses on top of one of mines viv and she flinched like crazy
Lotabob Posted - 19/01/2012 : 21:43:23
It may be that he was asleep. It would be handy if they had eyelids so we would be able to see when they are sleeping. I'd bite you too if you tried to pick me up after just waking me up, lol.

Has he shed yet while been with you?
Nathlovessnakes Posted - 19/01/2012 : 21:40:59
hi again, just read some other post and i've put my mind at rest- i did try and handle him a lot ealier than usual so think i must of startled him.
Lotabob Posted - 19/01/2012 : 21:39:20
Its snake behaviour yes.

Royals are docile in general but can be grumpy or just get frightened.

It may be your snake is about to shed soon, that tends to make them want to be left alone. Don't let it put you off though next time may be totally different.

blackskull Posted - 19/01/2012 : 21:39:18
yeah all snakes can bite even royals, my first royal bit my mum years ago. snakes are very in the moment and don't hold grudges so try not to let it worry you or let it put you off holding him.

this coming from the person who is weary of his jungle carpet python lol. to be fair she does have the devil in her
