Posted - 24/07/2012 : 21:48:08 any advice on which i should get? i need to start sorting out how im going to house my new python when i eventually get her and maybe another 2 eventually but im not sure which would be best, i know a viv stack would cost more to set up initially and a rack would work out alot cheaper and have the capacity for way more snakeys but im worried about keeping temps in winter as they will be in a large room that isnt the warmest in winter so what do you think would be best or any tips on keeping temps in rubs at the required level without having my gas bills go through the roof? i was thinking of an oil filled electric radiator but not sure how well this would work any other ideas are very welcome |

Posted - 03/08/2012 : 23:45:47 Yea I want more snakes but de partners having none of it because of all the tanks. Is it better to keep them in rubs than vivs? I was just going to try convert a wardrobe of sorts to house 3 vivs and then use the top for small rubs for hatchlings... |

Posted - 30/07/2012 : 10:37:14 Iv got mine running a heat cable rather than mats so just the one stat and lots of thermomiters. |

Posted - 30/07/2012 : 07:13:28 No you can run multiple mats from one stat as long as they don't exceed the max wattage of the stat |

Posted - 29/07/2012 : 20:32:48 do you need one thermostat for 1 mat |

Posted - 29/07/2012 : 09:24:27 i preffer racks. its alot better on space. i built mine for about 250 quid (i think it was anyway, its been a while) and it holds 12 x 50L rubs. its the only way my wife would let me get more snakes cuz they were taking over the back room lol |

Posted - 26/07/2012 : 19:55:34 Pro racks will always keep a residual value, you could use it for years and still make some money when you come to sell it. Homemade racks go for next to nothing if anything at all
Something to take into account |

Posted - 26/07/2012 : 19:12:14 Just had a look at b&q online to compare prices just for anyone thinking of making one the ikea wardrobe frame and shelves actually works out cheaper and is wider than what you can make from conti board unless you use multiple pieces for the back as the widest conti board is 600mm and ikea wardrobe is 998mm just big enough to fit a viv in the bottom lol |

Posted - 26/07/2012 : 18:42:53 That £217 is including 5 large heat mats that go from one side of wardrobe to the other and 2 pulse prop stats the wardrobe itself is 55 quid then 12 quid per pair of shelves i didnt think that was too bad a price and not much dearer than you'd pay for materials from the likes of b&q and withthe ikea one all the holes and things for fitting are pre drilled |

Posted - 26/07/2012 : 17:24:38 £217 is dear enough too... I'm hoping to get a 2nd hand wardrobe as well and try make my own. Failing that think I will try B&Q for MDF as hodgie has suggested. I had hoped to get breeding this year, but time is running out so doubt I'll have to wait til next year :(

MDF maybe cheaper, go to B&Q with your measurements and buy the largest sheets and they will cut to size. |

Posted - 25/07/2012 : 20:52:27 I`ve built my own racks and used RUBS from Staples, i use heat mats and a pulse stat. I keep the lids on the rubs and have have never noticed any change in the temps so have never worried about the room temp. I would be more concerned with freekishly hot weather especially if your Viv or rubs were in direct view of the windows. |

Posted - 25/07/2012 : 15:09:47 base it on the amount of snakes you have, if you plan on building your collection, a rack would certainly be cheaper |

Posted - 24/07/2012 : 23:16:44 Yeah I dont think anyone who has a rack heats their house to 25oC, I'd melt at that temp, lol. |
