Just had my first experience with somebody who'se clearly not a fan of snake keeping. Anyone on my facebook will know what I mean but please leave the comment section alone on the photo, enoughs enough.

Essentially a young lady began a rather irrational moan at one of my uploaded pictures complaining about the quality of care I have given my snakes, it's not a very nice feeling having somebody tell you that you're being cruel when in actual fact i'm breaking my back taking care of my snakes, over half my income goes onto them and while the vivariums aren't how i'd like them to be I do make sure they meet the requirements to house the reptiles safely and happily. They may not be pretty but I don't think my snakes are interior decorators.

The most irritating thing is I do alot of research into my snakes and I make sure i've made contact who can advise aand help me if I get stuck before I move a snake in with me and then some idiot who'se no idea what they're talking about, who'se read no research and spoken to nobody looks at a picture and thinks ''oh no! That snake doesn't have any toys'' or something equally outrageously stupid.

You guys had any experiences like this? It certainly wasn't pleasant.

LOL - to paraphrase another saying:

Those that can, do.
Those that can't, criticise ...

Seen it time and time again ...

I wouldn't get upset about it Kelfezond, your snakes are all gorgeous and obviously very happy with you! I was told I was stupid because I have a corn snake and want to have children, do they think I'll put the baby in the viv?! I've also been called childish for having snakes, so some people just won't accept these creatures as pets.

I think you're doing great, don't let anyone tell you otherwise

Hi i agree with you scubbadude deff planks not a word i would use for them but hay this is a family show i think you are doing a great job kelf with all the vids ect and if thay have'nt got anything usefull to add tell them to take a hike.
jhk2005 Posted - 16/06/2011 : 17:39:24
They're not too good at that BATS, very slow and a bit like me typing with one finger, but they can do some beautiful calligraphy if they use the tips of their tails
scubadude Posted - 16/06/2011 : 17:17:34
Don't sweat it Kelf, the world has no shortage of opinionated, poorly educated planks, who like to spout their bile to anyone who will listen, all we have to hope is they aren't allowed to breed and their genetic line ends with them.

Kelfezond Posted - 16/06/2011 : 16:00:32
I had this image of a snake with a pen in it's mouth sitting down next to a person jotting down numbers and mumbling "God damn, another month you son of a... one more month!"

Omg Kelf, u too?? Hands up all members who've heard the variation(s) of this same tail??? There must be a lot of hungry man-eating boas/burmese/retics out there running loose, and they always seem to be owned by "a friend of my mother's uncle", "my grandmother's second cousin twice removed on her father's side" etc etc! How considerate of these snakes to measure up their intended victims and to not eat the people unless they fit neatly inside 'em!
jhk2005 Posted - 16/06/2011 : 15:49:05
s'funny you know? I never knew snake's could sweat until I saw the little drops running down Mo's face after her last clearout! poor little devil looked exhausted!!
Kelfezond Posted - 16/06/2011 : 15:46:21
I got -told- from a co-workers the other day who looked at me with digust for owning snakes that her friends friends sister's boyfriend or whatever once owned a boa constrictor and that it used to lay next to her to measure if it was big enough to eat her so they had to sell it ....

I didn't want to be rude but couldn't resist laughing.

Silly i know, but oh so funny to see the look on her face!

Don't get me wrong as I'm all for educating people and will invite almost anyone who wants to see/handle my pets to come & do just that to help cure their phobia. I gotta admit tho, I think i've reached a point now after so many years of ignorance coming from the same people that (with them anyways) I think "what is the point???"

Oh superb - I'd have loved to see her face!

I will confess - the other day a (perfectly pleasant) neighbour was being a bit insistent about inviting themselves round - and I hate being in a room with another person; it freaks me out. I was sort of going umm, some other time maybe, but they wouldn't give up, so in the end, I said, 'well, I hope you're not snake phobic, because I've got 11 snakes.'

First they did a double take and looked horrified but then they said, well, perhaps I'll come and see them anyway... (Served me right eh?)

Never fear, I shall wriggle out of it ...

As for the retic who ate its readi-brek ...I reckon that's one of those cereal myths ...

The funniest thing that was ever said to me was by a very sweet person who's phobic but does their best to understand my snake addiction, and that was: 'Do they cover up their dumps like a cat?'

Bless! (Yeah, they have to be provided with a little snakey shovel ...)

I hate that the most when somebody tells you something and you know there is no way in hell it can be true but you have to nod and go "Oh cool.."
Kylashnikov Posted - 16/06/2011 : 14:21:32
A Retic eating porridge...? That awkward moment when someone's blatantly bull****ting...
How would that even work? It'd make a huge mess.
