Just had my first experience with somebody who'se clearly not a fan of snake keeping. Anyone on my facebook will know what I mean but please leave the comment section alone on the photo, enoughs enough.
Essentially a young lady began a rather irrational moan at one of my uploaded pictures complaining about the quality of care I have given my snakes, it's not a very nice feeling having somebody tell you that you're being cruel when in actual fact i'm breaking my back taking care of my snakes, over half my income goes onto them and while the vivariums aren't how i'd like them to be I do make sure they meet the requirements to house the reptiles safely and happily. They may not be pretty but I don't think my snakes are interior decorators.
The most irritating thing is I do alot of research into my snakes and I make sure i've made contact who can advise aand help me if I get stuck before I move a snake in with me and then some idiot who'se no idea what they're talking about, who'se read no research and spoken to nobody looks at a picture and thinks ''oh no! That snake doesn't have any toys'' or something equally outrageously stupid.
You guys had any experiences like this? It certainly wasn't pleasant. |

Aww, Kelf, yes. Not necessarily in the field of snake-keeping, but there are so many people who seem to get their kicks from bullying, sneering and petty power-games in all walks of life ... this is why I'm a recluse who spends all her time with her snakes, cats, books etc ... (Umm, yes, cowardly avoidance, he he!)
Basically it's a case of - 'There's always one' and 'You can't please all of them all the time, so you might as well please yourself.'
You know you're getting it right - if these plonkers choose to whinge about what they don't know about, that's their problem.
Still hurts though.
Lil's motto - 'Sod 'em!' Grrrr!!

Good motto, words to live by lol
It makes me second guess myself though which is annoying, I found myself pouring over old boa websites making sure I had it all right, wasted my time because an uneducated fool spoke out of line :(
Nevermind though :) |

Yeah, I know - it knocks your confidence - not good.
Better being us than having septic little minds like people like that though! |

I think if you keep snakes for any length of time you'll always find some little twit who needs to make their own life a little more bearable by laying into you. These will be normally be saddo's that think reptiles are 'weird' and we must all be 'strange' or 'sick' for preferring snakes to cats/dogs etc etc. I'm pretty sure most members here have 'copped it' at one time or another from one of life's many idiots out there that don't care for our hobby. Yes it does knock your conifdence at first but is it going to stop you keeping them? NOPE! and trust me in time it'll be like pulling off a piece of stuck shed - irritating but easy to get rid of :D
If it makes your feel any better, report said young female (i use the term loosely - i prefer cretin) to facebook for harrassment or something along those lines and then block her completely so she can't contact you, hahaha!! *evil grins* |

You have an incredible setup and some very lucky snakes, your pictures and videos are brilliant and anyone with even a small portion of brain can see that you more than meet the needs of the snakes. |

Figures. People like that don't want solutions; they want a grievance.

Just delete her as a friend, as you`ve stated she`s a girlfriend of a distant friend, dont think there will be any sleep lost. Personally i dont put anything on face ass about my snakes or other hobbies as theres always some twit who thinks they have the justification to criticise you with very little to no knowledge of the subject. I had someone tell me that snakes should be running around free and not kept in a tiny box, when i said they cant run free as they dont have any legs she was totally stumped for answers. As before though just delete her. |

Well if you knew she knew nothing about snakes you seriously shouldn't let it knock you or even pay attention to it. Just like you wouldn't listen to the advice a five year old would give you while driving.
Dorian also thinks this individual is silly, he's round my neck as I type this aha :D
I've had a decent share of people thinking I'm odd for owning a snake and wanting a tarantula, but I just shrug it off, anyone who thinks a snakes 'gross' or 'slimy' has clearly never experienced one. I actually find it funny when people call me weird now. |

haha, maybe she would have prefered a live feed lol. also been told that they shouldnt be kept locked up, my reply was that they have a lot more room in the viv than in the rat borrow that they would normally live, regulated heat, food on tap. and I even clean up after they have been to the loo
Shame they dont eat scones tho eh :) |
