@BATS
I woke up this morning one very proud and cheerful snake owner.
It was almost like being a child at Christmas again, When you first wake and for that split second you forget. Priceless feeling
Thank you for your advice, I promise i'll try harder to be more patient too. Although while changing his water this morning he curiously came over on his own accord to say hello. I kept my hand there to see his reaction to which he happily checked out and i got the teeniest hold within the Vivarium, But that was enough to put the Cheshire cat smile on my face all day.
My kids also love him loads already, Asking all kinds of different questions which is also great. My wife on the other hand hmmm not so keen haha oh well 2 outta 3 aint bad!

@Austin 89
Thank you also for your advice, I guess i'll take it as it comes. My main concern right now is getting him to take his first feed, I'm going to leave him be for the weekend and possibly try his feed again Monday evening. So i'll see how that goes.

I mix between the two, but for the simple reason that sometimes when Kane is really hungry he will go for anything that moves on feeding day so it's easier to doing it in his viv but on the days where he's fine he gets fed out of his viv.

Hi, how's the first morning of being a proud royal parent eh?

He'll be fine to wait until his next feeding day - better for him to have a good settle in, and the same with the handling, even briefly.

I started out feeding in-viv with my first, Shahi, as he was a baby and shy, then I started putting him in a rub to feed, until he made it plain that he preferred his viv. There are pros and cons to both methods. It's a good point that if you feed in-viv, the snake may think every human intrusion is food - but there again picking up an excited snake on feeding day (it's uncanny how they know) can lead to snakey forgetting its manners and mistaking your fingers for a rat. But usually snakes and owners come to an agreement about it all and some feed in-viv, some in a rub, and it's just down to preference.

You will get used to each other and get into a routine in no time.

I can see this being my new place to call my 'Virtual' home hahaa

Oh and another quick question...
Do i feed Chief in his viv or do i try feeding him in another tub/box?
As some videos i been watching on Youtube suggest feeding in a separate enclosure so the Royal doesn't associate everything as food?
Whats your thoughts? and where do you usually feed?
Thanks

Cheers mate,
I'll be sure to post up some pictures in the next few days,
And if it wasn't for my Wife being all ''Sensible'' my home would be like a Zoo lol

Yea I bet you are. It just get better and better from here on in, as you get to know your snake and it develops it own personality. So addictive too, wont be long before you want another, and another, and another lol.

@Scottydog

Thank you mate, and yeah i'm still super excited.
Itching for a hold though lol
Scottydog Posted - 14/04/2012 : 00:14:47
Lovely Royal you got there. I bet your dead excited still. I know I was when I got my first one. Congrats

I wouldn't like to think he would bite me but i assumed he would 'ball up' as i picked him up gently,
But instead he goes a lil crazy tryin to out run me lol
So i didn't wanna cause him no stress and placed him back under his hide and hes now tucked away nicely, fast asleep.
When i first placed him in earlier today he had agood 3 hours straight roaming his new home and surroundings.
He made me tired just watching the little active guy explore his new home.
and i've waited this long so a little longer wont hurt me...much
Should i perhaps try another quick hold tomorrow? or shall i leave him e for awhile?
And will he be ok as hes not had his feed today either.
Thanks for your help

Aww, he's unlikely to bite, but he's feeling very strange atm and you're both very new with each other.

Usual guide is, 3 consecutive feeds before the first armchair walkies, but brief necessary handling (as for weighing) won't do any harm. However, you'll have to leave him 5-7 days (depending on how big he is) before his next feed, so I'd leave him for a few days before you weigh him.

It's hell, I know - but you have over 20 years together to come - you'll soon be enjoying each other's company.

Thank you
yeah not been able to keep my eyes away from him for too long.
He was due his feed tpday which i have since tried him with but with no luck.
I've left him in his Viv to explore and settle him in before i tried holding him.
Just tried my first hold and he wasnt best pleased to see me to say the least.
Didnt ball up as i expected but instead tried to evade me at all cost.
I'll be the first to admit i'm a lil scared of him biting me lol
How long should i leave him to settle before i try holding him to weigh him etc?

Congrats!

Oh, it's so amazing when you bring a new snake home - I bet you can't bear to leave his viv-side ...

Happy Snake-day!

I am so happy right about now
I went to visit my Royal who I've had a deposit on for awhile now.
Went down to see him today in the pet store. And to my total surprise my best friend had been a lil sneaky and called in behind my back and paid the balance so little did I realise I was able to take Chief home today!!
I am on cloud 9 now. So happy happy happy!!!

austin_89 Posted - 10/04/2012 : 12:54:05

n/a Posted - 10/04/2012 : 12:23:52
He looks like a normal to me, with nice high gold colouring. Very pretty royal.
ShadEO9 Posted - 10/04/2012 : 08:55:05
Does anybody have any clue as to what my Royal is classed as?
Is he a Normal?
ShadEO9 Posted - 28/03/2012 : 09:51:13
