Posted - 01/10/2009 : 17:00:31 Got Oscar out today to check him over and discovered lots of blood under his scales down his belly...
i have no idea how this has happened as there is nothing in his viv that would cut him like this...
i have only got two ideas...
either he is allergic to newspaper or it is where he keeps curling round the bulb guard trying to find a way out of his viv...but would that make him bleed under his scales?
i have bathed him in a solution of F10 and also added tamodine to the areas where there is blood...
there are no mites anywhere near him and the only other thing is he is going into shed...but i have never seen this before when he has done so..and i am worried..
sorry for so many photos...wanted to get all of it..
has anyone else seen this? or got any ideas?

no he has been feeding on large mice and mice sized rat weaners..lol
the general consensus is that he should shed it out and as he is going into shed i will wait and see, just keep an eye on him for now..
obviously if it worsens or anything else happens i will trot him off to the vets...but i have combed his viv trying to find something that would cause it and there is nothing in there that is sharp..so it is a mystery really..
thanks for your help anyway, i appreciate it
there are no signs that i can see of anything else, so maybe it is just to do with him not having shed for a long time or something...
he has to much of an eye on the girls thats his problem..lol.. |

its one of Daves guards and is smooth...i checked it earlier to see if anything on it could do it, but it cant get under his scales.. |

Posted - 01/10/2009 : 18:40:56 I doubt that the newspaper is the problem. How far along his body is it? |

Posted - 01/10/2009 : 18:16:56 Sorry Anne, no idea what this might be - but I want to wish you well in sorting it out as you have always been so supportive of my snake issues on here. Try not to worry too much (I know it's hard) and hope someone can give you some useful information to help you understand what it is. |

I wouldnt worry about it too much at the moment. Its normal for royals bellys to go pink at the start of the shed cycle. How hot is the bulb guard?
Hi Matty, i am not worried about his belly, it is the blood under the scales that is bothering me...
the guard is quite hot in places, mainly the edges as i checked that as well...
could it be the newspaper causing it? |
