Posted - 16/03/2012 : 13:31:57 So after noticing Monty go into blue last week, I put her some moss in her hollow rock to help her out, as she had a bit of a rough time on her last shed.
Got up this morning to find a lovely full shed and a very frsh faced Monty looking proud of herself. Only problem is, still no poop!!
This has been going on for a while now, I've not seen a poop in around 6 weeks, and only 1 urate in that time too. She's still eating every week, so I've not been TOO concerned, but she hasn't been too active recently, which has had me a little worried.
What are your thoughs?? With what frequency do your young Royals leave you "little presents"? |

Posted - 24/03/2012 : 14:07:34 The humidity was up as she'd also peed a metric gallon too - she ate a 52 gram mouse last weekend, and weights 3 grams less this weekend!! |

Posted - 24/03/2012 : 12:29:50 Lol - that's why the humidity was up!
Yup, they hang on to it like misers.
Congrats, and Monty too! |

Posted - 24/03/2012 : 08:59:54 Haha! Decided not to name the poop monster, my better half was a little grossed out by it so I cracked on with the clean up operation as priority :D
Not as relieved as Monty I bet! |

Posted - 24/03/2012 : 08:50:33 We have poop!! Since I fixed her heating problems (albeit temporarily) she has been spending a LOT more time in her hot hide. Last night I went in to see her out hunting, which I've not seen her do in a good while.
Checked in on her this morning and noticed the humidity had shot up to 70% which raised an eyebrow- so got her out for her weekly weigh-in: She has gone down 3 grams, despite being fed 52 grams last weekend!! Sure enough, another look inside her vivarium revealed THE MOTHER OF ALL POOPS!!
I'm just really pleased she doesn't have anything seriously wrong with her |

Posted - 22/03/2012 : 09:44:59 Found a little urate this morning, and she'd peed a gallon too - but still no poop. She seems just fine in herself though, bit lazy perhaps, not much moving around and exploring from her. I'm happy that she's ok, but I'll be happier once she poops - in a way. |

Posted - 20/03/2012 : 15:03:16 Lol - they do - Shahi came as a hatchling, very shy, and was communing with the cats long before he bonded with me. One of my cats thinks the snakes are her especial property, even though her name is 'Mouse'... |

Posted - 20/03/2012 : 14:51:47 The reassurance is comforting
I guess I just worry when an animal can't communicate with me to tell me something is wrong, so I assume the worst. My other snake (Ifrit) is her complete opposite, he's quite grumpy, very active on an evening, and very "masculine" - he stands his ground and often hisses at me (no striking though) I lifted my little inquisitive cat up to have a look at him through the glass last night and Ifrit was actually coing right up to the glass so they were nose to nose! Talk about cocky! |

Posted - 20/03/2012 : 14:41:11 She sounds absolutely fine to me. And your setup's going to be perfect soon - and snakes know how to thermoregulate.
Lethargic? Royals are famous for it lol! And for keeping their crap in long-term storage. |

Posted - 20/03/2012 : 13:25:55 STILL NO POOP!! BUT, I might know why now. I've been under-feeding her, it seems. She weighs 420grams, so according to the 10-15% rule, she should be on mice/rats weighing between 42 and 62 grams. I've only been feeding her 25 grams for the last month, and before that, probably 18-20 grams. I fed her 2 mice this weekend, a large and a medium, which combined weighed 52 grams, so I'm hoping that gets things moving a little.
Seperately, Monty was spending very little time in her hot hide, I'd say less than 10%. The cold hide is only around 20-22degrees on a night, so I've been worried about her developing an R.I. I've been testing the temps of my heat mat (ranted about in another thread) and found that, unstatted, the surface temp is just way way too hot, but the ambient temp barely gets above 22 - hence her spending all her time in the cold end.
Now I've got the heat mat statted and set to 32 degrees C (to be binned next weekend for a ceramic setup), she's spending the vast majority of her time in the hot hide - ideally I'd like to see her using both ends, but rather a little too warm, than much too cold.
I'm hoping that a proper amount of food, plus raising her temperature up, will kickstart her system and get her going again. Other than the lack of poops, she seems healthy and happy enough - enough to strike feed two mice one after the other, put it that way. A little lethargic the the day / evening perhaps, but who knows what she gets up to when I'm in bed
Watch this space (for poop)!! |

Posted - 18/03/2012 : 06:30:51 EEEK!!!!
Waaaa... my royals will never win this competition. I wonder if it's my set-up that causes them to poop smallish poops. Maybe if I move them to the UK they'll hold it until they get a good size to bust out. Hmmm... |

Posted - 17/03/2012 : 19:33:00 That puts Duke to shame its almost the same size as he is too lol. |

Posted - 17/03/2012 : 18:49:51 Duke's effort isn't unusual - here's one of Shahi's. They're about the same age and this was probably taken at about the same time; peak royal feeding season; they're eating their fill and, being in good working order, they're well ...going great guns ...
pretty magnificent eh? |

Posted - 17/03/2012 : 18:28:20 Yeah, it is all different. I thought at first that it is the type of feed that accounts for the difference, but I feed multimammates and so does some other people I know and mine go weekly or every other week while others go longer than that.
Now, here's the interesting thing - ALL of my 6 royals do the same. But yeah, they don't have those mega giant poops! (That poop picture out there is like... EEK!) Just regular smallish poops.
