I got my 4 month old lesser platty out this morning and noticed he has a 1inch gash on his belly just over a inch from his vent!! Ive cleaned it up with antiseptic reptile treatment but am unsure if i should do anymore??

Its not bleeding and was very clean already.

Im not even sure how he has done it as there is nothing sharp in his viv??

Help needed please

Phew...that truly was snake wrangling! Uncooperative little folk.
ppl_clectr Posted - 19/06/2012 : 02:35:53
These are 2 of the hatchlings, the pics I took of the third were too blurry to upload. I hope this helps.

@ ppl clectr yes a few pics would be great just to put my mind at ease. Thanks
Sw1fty84 Posted - 18/06/2012 : 18:29:18
Great thanks guys. Im cleaning it twice a day and cleaning his temp plastic viv everyday with disinfectant, clean towel and disinfected water bowl just to be safe.

He is very happy in himself, really active and is eating fine.

I just need to keep an eye on him and if it doesnt start healing in a few days ill take him to the vet.
chrisc Posted - 18/06/2012 : 16:45:17
i stand corrected thought i had read it was from tail to vent, as said hopefuly if heals up on its own
ppl_clectr Posted - 18/06/2012 : 15:35:16
Hey Sw1fty, you are right, they do have a similar mark from that. I just checked out my 3 hatchlings to be sure. None of them look as pink, but it is there. Do you want me to post pics?

The umbilical thingy snake belly button is the line exactly where that wound is. Its not unheard of that this bit can be weak, fingers crossed it seals up of its own accord if not a vet could pop a few stitches in no problems so it holds shut while it heals. You've done the good thing of switching to kitchen roll and are keeping it clean.
chrisc Posted - 17/06/2012 : 22:13:30
im sure the umbilical cord goes from the vent to the tail as on some snakes you can see a faint line down the scales for vent to tail, could be wrong though will check in a bit
Sw1fty84 Posted - 17/06/2012 : 21:13:15
Hmm well ill keep it up and if i get to worried ill get him to the vet.

Thanks

Oh well looks like you got it covered
Keep us updated

Don't think it would make any diffrence Beening small

Sw1fty84 Posted - 17/06/2012 : 21:07:09
He is very small i must say if that makes a diff at all?

Im cleaning it with Tamodine a couple of times a day and putting him on fresh paper towel in twice a day.
Evolution Morphs Posted - 17/06/2012 : 21:05:06
Would have thought it would have healed fully in that time
Maybe he's just caught it on something and opened it up on the surface

Should heal quickly just keep it clean
Maybe the vets can get you some cream for it
Sw1fty84 Posted - 17/06/2012 : 21:02:21

Evolution Morphs Posted - 17/06/2012 : 21:00:08
When I saw that pic that's what I thought

How old is it ?
Sw1fty84 Posted - 17/06/2012 : 20:52:47
Ive been doing some looking around and have found a few people saying this is normal! its where the umbilical cord was attached.

Anyone else heard of this??
