I got my 4 month old lesser platty out this morning and noticed he has a 1inch gash on his belly just over a inch from his vent!! Ive cleaned it up with antiseptic reptile treatment but am unsure if i should do anymore??
Its not bleeding and was very clean already.
Im not even sure how he has done it as there is nothing sharp in his viv??
Help needed please |

heres a thread on how to post pics via photobucket http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4932
would be worth getting him checked over by a rep vet to be safe and i would re check the viv for sharp edges an if you use hides like the exo terra type ones they occasionally hvae a sharp edge somewhere inside from the moulding process.
my other thought is could it be a hernia? have seen a hognose recently with what looked like a cut on its belly that turned out to be a hernia |

Hi Sw, if you copy the IMG Code, the last option then paste it on a thread, it displays the pic like this :)

Sorry lol..I mean on photobucket. You have uploaded your photo to photobucket, then to display the image here you select the pic and it gives options on how you want to post.
I always select and click on IMG Code, it'll say 'copied' and then just 'paste' it on a thread. You don't need to select any image or link tabs here, just paste in the message box where you type your message. |

hehe that's just spot on :)
It does look that a wire may have caused the scratch, but it doesn't look deep or anything to worry about. |

does look like shes caught it on something. what are you using as substrate? you need to empty/clean the viv and put kitchen roll or newspaper down as substrate so theres not much chance of anything getting into the cut an causing an infection |

posted while you were replying. thats likley to be how she cut herself, just sand the sharp bits off with some sandpaper or something an as you are already doing keep her clean an keep an eye on the cut. it doesnt look too bad so will hopefully heal up quickly |
