Why not. They were eaten in this country in our not too distant past. So were Hedgehogs.

i was walking down the road a couple of months ago and i saw a squirrel that had been run down it hadn't been there long. i decided to pick it up and put it in an overgrown wooded area at the end of the road so it doesnt upset anyone. I walk past someones house and he came running out and asked me if i was going to eat it. I was like what??? He ran in got a lunch box stuffed it in there and took it inside. The house was full of kids like there was a party or something. As i walked away i could here them all crying, i bet he got a right telling off from his wife!

My only concern is that the meat came from Vietnam, and I've seen how they treat dogs prior to eating them.

That aside, I'd have no problems eating python. I've bottle-fed lambs on the farm, and they are adorable, but they're not pets. Same goes for rabbit and squirrel, which I'm hoping to get some of this year if we get the weather for shooting. I couldn't eat an animal I had a personal attachment to, but anything else is fair game.

Not tried it - tried the kangaroo burger a long while ago and that was good! - Farmed Ostrich is probably the most tasty meat I've tried. There is a good venison farm not so far from us every now and again we'll get a good piece of venison meat from there... I know they've had a good life because I've seen them running around a field and woodland, they've got loads of space!

I love meat, but I do only buy free range chicken, pork, etc I know they've lived a good life, and we use every bit when we do get meat. including the bones and stuff for stock.

Would be good to see some of you carry this debate on on the cottage cookbook there's a forum on there the same as on here.

For those who feel strongly about food you should pay it a visit and add a recipe or two to the forum! There is a vegetarian section that could do with a few recipes to help fill it up wolfspirt, I love good veggie meals too so would be nice to see something different (doesn't have to be masterchef just something you love eating)

We're printing a top 100 recipe book each year (hopefully around Christmas, like an annual) so the top 100 submitted recipes will be added and it will go on sale in an online shop. (eventually we hope to publish them properly)

here's the link to the forum if anyone fancies a look around:

shark and veg- nice!
Roo meat curry- awful
bbq'd squirrel with chillie sauce - nice
Venison sausages/steak - nice
pigeon pie -alright
pheasant curry - gorgeous

Not tried Crocodile, ostrich, hedgehog or rat though

I agree that what you eat should have had a natural, good life though. Mass produced and slaughtered meat is bad for you and doesn't even taste as nice as the free-range stuff.

Crocodile is nice, and I love a nice bit of veal.....
You ever need grey squirrel I am your man ;) hate the buggers and regularly go out and reduce the population ( I lve in one of the remaining red strongholds)

If it can be cooked I'll try it. I grew up around farms, kill it, cook it, eat it, sleep with a full belly......
