i had a MAHOOSIVE rat pup in with the pups i bought for the corn and boa so thought i would replace one of ra's mice with this pup.
fed ra last night.
he ate the rat first and now refuses to touch the mouse....
go figure.
i've decided to start breeding my own rats now, i dont mind wasting their food, but when i am having to pay through the rudy nose for it it bites a little >.<
between my snakes and my brothers snakes i think breeding my own would be worthwhile now, and i have bred rats before (though not for food LOL) and biff say's he doesn't mind having to kill them for me...
anyone who knows the story of "Ren the sausage nibbler" will understand why he will finding strangely satisfying to kill the rats.........
LOL

If hes eating rats thats a good thing. I cant see breeding rats for less than 10 snakes being cheaper than buying.

well between us there are 9 snakes 3 geckos and 13 tarantulas (the geckos and T's have the occasional pinkie), they dont have to be fed on expensive rat food and the surplus (live) rats can be kept/sold as pets.
i can get the cages/bedding and initial rats for free, plus know several people i can do the occasional swap with to prevent too much inbreeding occuring.
I'm thinking i can control the breeding of them well enough to not go overboard...and i have a huge freezer LOL :)
besides, if it doesn't work out, i can stop, nothing lost nothing gained.

see that is what stopped me from getting a pair of multis this morning, having to break the necks...

it took me a while to get used to feeding my snake dead things..lol..

i have looked at the c02 chambers, that for me would be the easier option, but i am not that good at making things..lol.

rofl...

can i borrow him....

on a more serious note...i would definitely be interested in breeding multi's if i could find a cage they cant chew or jump out of...if they jumped out my cat would get them..lol..

but for my royals this would be great..nad i would know what there prey was eating and how well looked after it was...

If Cat could post all her costs for it that would be great, I have no idea how much things cost for small mammals.
