I am confused, yesterday I set my aquarium up like anatess (http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1165) and I decided to leave my Hydrometer that I already had in there just to double check the humidity. They both are pretty much right beside each other, maybe 2"-3" gab between them. Now, my Hydrometer is reading exactly 40%, while my AccuRite is reading exactly 50%!?!?!? I noticed this yesterday already when I put everything back together and I thought that the Hydrometer would take a little while to read right, but still today, they are exactly 10% off!!! Which one should I trust? I got some pics of it that I will post a little later on, I forgot my camera at home! Thanks |

that is correct. The hydrometer is dial and the AccuRite is digital! |

Yeah, unfortunately, the dials are notorious for being off. I used to have dials. If you look in the back of the dial, there's a hole where you can see the underpinnings of the thing. This thing can retain moisture inside which could cause the reading to be higher than it should be. Then, if the metal inside gets hot (especially when you got an overhead heat/lighting element, the reading swings lower than it should be.
I just use digital now. They are fairly good at reading accurately and are more stable. |
