Can anyone tell me if this is ok? Or do you know of anywhere else I can get a decent one.

Hi Laura,
That looks like an okay unit. But, if you got the extra cash, spring for this one instead:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lucky-Reptile-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Deluxe_W0QQitemZ110393592342QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects?hash=item19b3f88a16&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1686%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

This unit gives you the temperature readings for both hot and cool ends and the humidity measurement all in one.

Or these are a bit cheaper.

OOOH BE! That's a good one - it's got 2 probes and an alarm!
If it came with a hygrometer it would be perfect! But, I guess a fridge don't need humidity measurement... I'm gonna look for one here in the US and try it out. It's cheap enough to grab a separate hygrometer.

Hi all!

Welllll......Sofia has FINALLY been to the ladies room & it was a double whammy! Pratically flooded her tank! :-D

Her eyes have started to go now so she will be ready to shed soon. I've added her moss hide which she probably won't use, but at least it's there.

I got the thermometer/hygrometer above & it shows that my dials were completely useless! I'm only getting a 2°C difference from the hot & cool ends of the tank. Is that ok? Also her humidity is in the 40's. I know it should be 50-60. It was in the 20's but I've moved her water bowl underneath her ceramic bulb & with the moss pot that has increased it to 40's. Is there anything else I can do or will it be ok?

Are you sure about the humidity? - How are you measuring it?

With the digital thermometer/hygrometer I've just got. It says 28% now & my dial says 90%?? Ignoring the dial though.

Sofia is just in the middle of eating a rat. Yay! The shop I went to has closed down so I ordered a load off their website. She is on medium rats but this one looks a bit bigger than the others. Does she know her limit or will she hurt herself trying to eat it?

Oh & the humidity seems to have sorted itself out. Must be because of the warm weather we are having at the mo.

Congrats Laura, how heavy is she and how heavy are the rats? - Aim for 10-15% of the snake's body weight and about the girth of the snake.

I don't normally weigh the rats I just ask for medium ones & they have been the same as her girth. They are normally boys she gets but this one was female, she obviously had a few weight issues There are a couple of other big ones so I will weigh them & weigh her again.

She has taken it behind her shedding pot rather than in her hide & is wrapped around it. I hope it will be gone by morning & she has managed it ok. I just wondered if they knew their limits when it comes to eating.

Oh & this time it is just under 5 weeks since she last ate, so that is an improvement from her usual routine. I have tried her with food but she wasn't really interested. I hope I can get her to eat more regularly in future.

Just remember that regularity to a Royal is not a natural thing, so don't get too stressed about it
